BUT WAIT!! THERE’S MORE!! What-A-Giveaway!!

Great GAW! I'm in.

This Peanut by Pal was inexpensive and a favorite of mine since finding it in an antique shop several years ago.
That 1" pen blade has done a substantial amount of work in it's 60+ years of existence, including quite a bit for me.

I’m going to join team Gary 5K Qs 5K Qs - it would go well with his retirement knife, he shares my enthusiasm for the economical, and if he wins, What-A-Opportunity to keep the “What-A-…” comments flowing!

Except my recent Case purchase, all of my knives are inexpensive. If I had to choose my favorites, it would probably be these:

The Pallarès plastic version is even more bare-bones:

Pallarès makes the only knives I have encountered whose cutting performance matches, or even maybe exceeds, that of Opinel.
Thanks for the kind nomination, Tom! :)
But I think it violates the GAW rule limiting nominations from others to no more than one for each participant.

That Pallarés Solsona is indeed a fine cutter, and I really enjoy the one you sent me. I call it my "x-ray vision knife" because you can see the spring working if you hold the translucent handle up to the light as you open/close the blade. 🤓

I'm in! My favorite low cost carry is my Schrade florist knife. Other than being a good yard knife, it is a great at opening packaging.
I also included my daughter's wooden Northwoods kit knife. You gotta start them young with knife safety.
Thanks for putting this GAW on!

I’ve been enjoying all the entries so far! Thanks for participating everyone!

Thanks for the generous GAW, Barrett!:cool::thumbsup:

I'm definitely in!

I have LOTS of inexpensive knives, and I like most of them, so coming up with my favorite is a challenge for me. But I'm going to go with this Carlos Quintana taramundi. It's the first of several knives I bought while visiting my daughter in Spain 10 years ago; the knives are wonderful mementos of the Spanish cities she took me to during my visit. I bought the taramundi in a cuchilleria in Sevilla that had been recommended to me by a BF member from Spain while I was planning my trip. The knife has a unique blade shape, the pattern is sort of a friction folder Barlow, and the burnt boxwood handles contain lots of interesting critters to those with vivid imaginations!

GT, that happens to be one of my favorite of your knives! Love the wood on it.

In please. I like this little dog paw key chain knife with the tang stamp "dog".

PXPuueI.jpg

That’s an interesting one, Rick. I don’t know much about Dog Paw Knives. I know GEC made some, although the ones I remember looked more like standard GEC fare. Did they make that one as well?

What A Knife!!!!! I’m in. Not sure if the Pipe tool qualifies so I also threw in this cool Remington spey. Both knives were picked up at various knife shows for $10.

Thanks for the opportunity, Barrett.

The pipe knife would definitely count, but no harm in adding the spey. You got a great deal on both of those! 😁

Fun giveaway and those are super neat looking little knives! I’m totally in and happy to participate. Thank you for the opportunity.

I’d say my absolute favorite “cheapy” is this little victorinox florist knife that I keep in my bag every single day to let people borrow when they ask for a knife. Plain synthetic handle of some unknown sort, although it’s a fun color. Great sheepfoot blade for general purpose use. Easy, predictable, pinchable, and smooth action (important for when you’re loaning out to non-knife people). Also it has some cool features like a single bevel grind for some reason… maybe florists like that? While it’s cheap, it’s very sturdy and a great cutter too.

In the name of fun for the contest, I’ll include some whataburger paraphernalia that I “accidentally” borrowed before leaving Texas. Whoops 😉

That’s great! 😁

Very cool write-up on the What-A-Knife and What-A-Saw. Thank you. 👍

I would like to enter for @afishhunter who enjoys inexpensive knives.

My favorite inexpensive knife is the Aitor Castor. I get a kick out of this knife. Aitor pared this knife down to the bare essentials, removing all the features that add to the cost of manufacture without compromising its utility. No bolsters, no shield, no swedges, no nail nick, this knife isn't even stamped. Yet I can't deny that this is a good knife, a tool at its simplest. One day in the future when my daughter sells my knives for a buck each at a garage sale, some lucky bloke is going to buy this and wonder what kind of weird knife he just bought.

Nice knives there, gents. I’m also a fan of that Spanish pattern, although I believe this one that I have is not actually be Spain.

I'm in

My old Kamp King. I have this since my first pocket knife was a Kamp King my Grandfather gave me.View attachment 2859310

Very nice. I found this Imperial fixed blade and leather sheath in my great-grandmother’s fishing tackle box years ago in my parent’s garage. I picked up the Kamp King at a much later date, but I believe her fixed blade knife would have originally had one like it that fit in the front part of the sheath, as shown in the second pic (which I found online).

After looking at your What-A-Knife thread, I scrolled down and saw this. I’m definitely in.
In my book, for an inexpensive traditional, it’s hard to beat a No 6.
View attachment 2859665

Hard to beat an Opinel in general for an inexpensive knife that’ll slice better than a lot of knives 10x its price. 😁 The No. 6 is a nice pocketable size, although I tend to like a No. 7 or No. 8 for little more blade. And then there’s the No. 13, for a lot more blade! 😲

HSZxTqQ.jpg

You do sacrifice a bit of pocketability with that one, though. 🤣

I assume the Rhidian will be third place 😁

Obviously! Just don’t be surprised if the hat looks like it’s full of slips of paper with “btb01” written on them. 😉

What a fun thing to do. Not an entry but there is something special of a simple but functional knife. I’ve been enjoying my Cudeman lockback knife.not fancy, but a keen edge and and made in Albecte, Spain. In Juniper so it has a pepper smell.View attachment 2859862

Interesting! I haven’t seen a lockback in that pattern before.

In!

Thanks for the opportunity!

This was an “inexpensive” forum knife. Long story short I lost my original knife. At the time I was heart broken. Until, Bob aka BigBiscuit reached out to me. He sent me his knife. This really showed me what The Porch was all about.

RIP BOB!!!

I’ll allow it! 😁 I remember when that happened, Taylor. Bob was such a great guy! What a story to remember him by. 🙂

WHAT-A-SCANDAL!😲

What-a-scandal indeed! 😲😁

No worries, Tom. I included the rule just because I didn’t want anyone to get too much of an advantage over everyone else in the drawing. You’re welcome to nominate someone else if you’d like.

( B BrotherJim it looks like you also nominated a member who had already been nominated by someone else, so you maybe want to choose a different nominee as well.)

My favorite cheap one is an Imperial Ireland fish knife from my late father’s old tackle box. I the old scales had melted some so I took them off and use them as is.

View attachment 2860477

Hey, I imagine it’ll still do the job.

What is it with grandparents’ tackle boxes and old Imperial knives? 🤣

I dont judge by price, but this one didnt cost me anything as Jack sent it to me as a gift.

So it cost me nothing by my maths (yet at the same time its priceless). 😁

I love a good SAK and with these lovely scales its a winner,so count me in please.

I like that kind of math! 😁 Nice SAK.

OOPS  ... Sorry Barrett. I apologize

And in that case, I'm in for a shipmate, Modoc ED Modoc ED :)

In the spirit of an all metal inexpensive favorite ... I submit a vintage SPOOK-y liner lock folder from my collection
What do I like about it ?? ... Well, they put it together with a dang Phillips screw !!! 🤔

I know, right! It seems everyone and their cousin finds them in old tackle boxes.

It does still do the job well, I just don’t carry as much anymore because it is very sentimental to me and I lost it once and thankfully found it again. It was my main and only knife for a good long while until I went down the rabbit hole that is traditional knives.
