Button frame locks???

Having recently learned about button liner locks I was curious if there are button frame locks. I found the Bestech Wet Nellie uses exactly that system. You still get the extreme lock up of your hand holding the lock in place and to unlock it the button keeps your fingers away from the blade edge. Seems like a best of both worlds.

Is there a reason this isn't more popular???
 
seems unnecessary to me.....but im not against it in theory. dont really need it or want to pay more for it though.

I may have cursed myself with all my recent banging on the drums of finger safe closing. Had a pretty skin shaving near miss last Saturday with a favored Rat 1 that I keep pretty sharp.
 
Hey, that's pretty cool. I'm guessing the large choil to clear the button is why it is less popular.
 
I'd guess it's just too new? I love the Spyderco Smock with the liner button, and wondered if the same would eventually show up for solid frames. I saw the big feller from KC preview the Nellie, and I think it's promising. If I remember right, that one integrates a part that includes the button and a facing piece for the blade to lock against. Case's Marilla has a replaceable/ adjustable lockup face, making me wonder if a similar button could work with a little mod.

That big choil is a common complaint from folks who dislike the Smock, fwiw.

Found another one. The REMETTE RT-Meteor. Not immediately sure what the RT means. Right hand? But doesn't have the large choil like the other one does.

Looking at it again, I've never been a hundred percent sure on labeling this lock design. I think I've also seen them called bolster locks. Like a liner lock that gets thick at the end like a frame lock. As in it's not quite so much a part of the frame since it's extending from the liner but it's thick like the frame.

I know I've seen where the guy behind the Smock (I'd swear that's his name) was modifying Paras by drilling the one side and installing a button. And that's how the Smock was born. Which just made me wonder why the standard Compression lock was never modified the same way he was doing it.

AND, if it was already done via mod that means you don't strictly need the giant choil. Probably just easier to mass produce?

Come to think of it, the Sage 6 is a button compression lock.
 
I have the Remette Meteor, but I didn't buy it for the button frame lock feature.

At the time, it seemed like a gimmick. I was looking for a reasonably priced titanium frame lock that had decent steel and wasn't too big.
I came across the Remette and figured I'd just use the back flipper or thumb stud to open.

But when I got it, I really like the way the button worked, you just push and the blade drops out (similar to the way an Axis lock works, but easier to manipulate).
You can easily flip it open and closed.
