Buy a knife that’s not first choice to make using it easier

I will admit , that I still do tend to baby some of my prettier , more costly , and /or hard to replace knives .

I'm more comfortable to really beat up, damage or lose, a cheaper , easy to replace one . 🤷‍♂️

In theory , they are all "users" , but not really to the same degree .

I use all my knives, although admittedly I have too many to carry all at once  .
You dont have enough pockets, you mean ;D

As for the topic, I wouldn't buy knives I don't intend to use, some of them get used harder than others, sure, like I wouldn't do with my Irbis what I put my Strongarm or Tracker through, but all get used (and those I don't use sit in a box in my closet because I dont like them 😂).

Also, I don't have the money to buy knives just to look at ^^

I just bought a knife with a configuration that was not my first choice, or even second. I think sometimes when I buy my ideal version of a knife, I tend to carry it less. I wanted a new automatic to add to daily use rotation, decided on a McNees Automac 2. My first choice would have been the OD green, then blue, but I I ended up witb the grey. It’s kind of blah, but honestly that makes it easier to use as a tool. Now I’m not going to do this with every knife, but I think it worked out in this case. Except that I still want the green🤷‍♂️.
I seldom purchase more than one version of a knife. And I buy what I like. Knives that I don't like don't get carried very often. Knives that I do like get more pocket time.

I use MOST of my knives. That said I put a CRK UG away today and ended up reaching for it as my carry knives for an event. Carried a Kershaw instead. Why,? Due to circumstances beyond my control, needing to climb under a car and roll around, it ended up being the right choice. I still pulled the Kershaw and set off to the side.

Same. I have a few I don’t use, like the SAK my grandfather gave me when I was a kid I stopped carrying sometime after he passed away for fear of losing it, not fear of using it. Some day I’ll track down the age and model, but I mostly just clean it periodically and remember time with my grandparents.

I too pick my EDC situationally. If I know I’ll be in the office mostly, I am more inclined to carry a fancy Sebenza, but if I’ve got to help someone shipping, receiving, running a tool, I’ll usually go for something like a ZT or a Kershaw. i suppose my OCD is as much to blame as anything else, but I’m OK with not always carrying my favorites.
