Buy direct from manufacturer?

Sure you could, but I see no compelling reason why you should. All things being equal, buying from one of the many stand up dealers that are members here would help their business a little bit at no cost to yourself.

Some retailers also have rewards points and other incentives to purchase from them. Benchmade doesn’t usually do that unless it’s a free hat with purchase or something along those lines.

Thanks, I'll order from one of the retailers as I always have. I had never seen the price at Benchmade and retailers be the same before and thought maybe I'd order from them. I forgot about the rewards points and such.

I think what you see is called MAP pricing, or Minimum Advertised Price. Some companies require their dealers to follow a MAP pricing policy, so that all official dealers have to advertise an item no lower than a certain price set by the company. Supposed to level the playing field between big vs. small dealers. Lots of discussion about it, search and you’ll find it. Sometimes gets contentious, so I’ll leave it at that.

The only reasons to buy direct from any manufacturer is if you know someone there and they get you a deal or if they have something at the factory you can't get anywhere else.
