Buy local or online?

I would make the purchase on line, You would have to wait for it to be shipped but the money you will save can go towards the purchase of another ESEE product.

I have to agree with TAGannon as a dealer also, I have some distributors that also restrict what the lowest price I can charge for some brands. But I would not pay double for what I can get it for on line. You work hard for your money, save it when you can.

Supporting your local economy is a great thing to do, and I try to as much as I can myself. But you have to be realistic. If it were 5 or 10 dollars difference, I would probably say buy locally. But for that much markup I think it is a no brainer.

Good luck,

Les.

If your in Canada like me, the savings from buying ONE knife online is sorta canceled out by the 20 dollar shipping fee. I'm talking about knives in the 50-100 price point. Though stores sell at about MSRP which is kinda absurd online, but if you include the shipping for knives like the RAT1, Tenacious, Byrd, or many kershaws, it's sort of a moot.

Buy local if it's just 1 item, but buy online if it's in bulk.

I love to support local businesses, but I'm not about to drive 8 hours to buy a knife, so it's buy online or no ESEE knife. I can buy just about anything else in person though.

It's not the local dealer's fault he has to collect sales tax either :). I just don't know of local dealers near me with a good selection -- even being "in the metroplex" they may still be an hour drive away from me.

Go to House of Blades in Ft. Worth. They have a huge selection. You can handle them all you want and the pay DOUBLE for whatever knife you decided to buy.

The online stores may be cheaper, they don't have to have a "demo" model for people to play with, but don't take advantage of the local store if you do order online.

It'd be nice if they didn't try to take advantage of customers. I mean...$200 for an ESEE-6??

Don't get me wrong..I'd love to buy locally but I'm not gonna play the fool.

Personally, when it comes to knives, I'm very particular that I get the exact model I want. Especially when paying $100+. I have a hard enough time finding some of them online, let alone in a local shop anyway. After spending at least 8 - 10 hours a week in traffic, I'm not interested in driving even more to see if 'maybe' a store has the exact knife I want. I've done the whole call and ask if they have it thing, just to get there and see that it's not the right one. Ordering online is easy, almost always cheaper, and you get exactly what you want.

If you want to spend a little more at a B&M, that's fine, just expect to pay more.

I remember when I first moved to Fort Worth and discovered that the House of Blades was nearby. My excitement was quickly tempered (get it, tempered, that's a knife joke) when I asked to see the sheath that went with a Beretta folder. The owner actually tried to convince me that the folder went into a sheath designed for a fixed blade, in the open position. I asked him if he had been snacking on lead paint earlier in the day and promptly left. Little did he know, but, over the course of the 15 years I lived there, I spent probably $6000.00 on knives. That could have been in his pocket. Thank God for Gun and Knife shows, they saved my life.

Now I live in NY. My God, what have I done!

Shotgunners, I live down the road from you in The Woodlands. I usually buy online as everything in my area is jacked up in price. If everyone is bothered by paying $50 more for a knife, don't ever buy furniture. I work in a furniture store. We would buy furniture directly from the manufactuer and then jack the price up, usually double. Matresses are marked up 4 to 5 times the cost the seller buys them from the manufactuer for.

Assistance Needed

I live in Maryland, do any of you guys know if there are any ESEE dealers in or near MD. I am having a hard time deciding which knife to get and would like to handle a few before I make the purchase. After reading from the wealth of knowledge on this site I have def decided on the esee line just cant decide which one.

Thanks for any help you can give.

I am new to Esee knifes, just bought an Izula and a E-4.
After about a month of finding the right dealer for me.
Dale at TheKnifeConnection was were I bought from, above and beyond service

I haven't been able to find any ESEE locally. I usually order from Knifeworks or Knivesshipfree

I've always had excellent service from bladehq.com and knifecenter.com as well. Usually they throw something extra in too.

Can't go wrong with any ESEE knife!

If there's someone selling ESEE over the counter in Maine please tell me where. I'll stick with The Knife Connection till then.

I am in Canada Bubblewhip and we have a few online sources where even with shipping it was cheaper than me buying local. Which I admit pisses me off. I would recommend the following for online and both carry Esee products.

In South Florida there are only a couple of stores that have knives and that is Outdoor World/Bass Pro shop. They carry a good selection but their knives (and everything else) is 20% higher than on-line. When I am buy something under $75 I would go to them but if it is more I go on-line. Between the lower prices, the lower costs on Priority mail boxes and no tax you can save a lot of money. Often if you call them they might eat or split the postage as well.

I agree, its hard to justify buying local when the price difference is so huge.

For you other Houston guys, Beckwith Blades has a pretty good selection. He's also really knows his stuff.

Don't have much here other than Bass Pro, so I only buy online. Knivesshipfree.com or knifeworks.com. Closest local is an online store as well, soonerstateknives.com
