I wrapped mine a few different ways with 550 and leather... didn't go with the scales yet - I just prefer it plain. The scales aren't terribly expensive, and 550 cord certainly isn't - I encourage you to experiment with any and all of the above - these knives are like motorcycles - if you don't personalize it even just a little bit you're not riding!

Also, consider smaller diameter cord - someone mentioned waxed marine thread - this is interesting - never thought of that - I've also heard of people using accessory cord - you can get it in various mm sizes and colors.

Love the look of paracord, especially the fancy threads and fancy wraps.

Hate, HATE, HATE the feel! :barf:

And I LOATHE the fact that it would absorb all the sh** that is the main reason I'm buying the knife: to reach up inside the rib-cage of a deer and sever the esophagus and windpipe.

So, yeah... scales. :D

Here's my Izula with waxed whipping/sailor's cord. It gives a really good grip because it's waxed , and I like the feel of the smaller diameter cord. I used super-glue to secure the end knots.

I really like my Izula wrapped. I love it with the scales:D
Heck, neither are permanent or cost a lot so try both. For now its scales for me

Be sure to get sth to close the wound because either way it can, and probably will, bite you

I bought the scales and I'm glad I did, they're excellent and I prefer the knife with them.

Saying that, I'd buy the Izzy without scales and use it hard to familiarize yourself with the knife, then decide if you want the scales. There's nothing to stop you from fitting up your Izula with scales for wet weather and hunting, and wrapping it for other tasks. Or you could get two Izulas... :D

first izula is wrapped. tried several styles/cord thicknesses/with and without inner strands. tho i prefer for edc pocket carry(much thinner profile). the cord wrap i find hurts my hand with any extended use. just picked up a new izula and the scales. havent used it much so far but the scales(as someone else mentioned) feel a bit short. sorta wish they covered the entire handle. so thinking at this point that i will make my own scales for the new izula which will be used as a psk/neck knife(something along these lines http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BwUydd2JKo&feature=related). will post pix of sheath, stock scales and homemade when its all done.

I GREATLY fear that is what I'll end up doing....

Try the wrap, and if you don't like it get the scales. If you don't like either.. leave it nekkid.

I like mine wrapped. It works great for where and how I normally carry it. Now if it were going to be used for gutting animals or an environment where general muck and or potentially corrosive material were going to come into contact with it regularly I'd probably go bare or with scales.

Wrap it. Makes the whole handle larger, rather than just the middle. Plus, I think it just looks much cooler.
