I want to buy a knife from someone here on the forums. I've only bought items over ebay before. What is my protection with paypal or money orders?

Paypal won't help you much if you deal with a bad seller. Happened to me once. I bought a lot of items from an ebay seller. The items has less quality that they were advertised for. Went to Paypal (since I paid with Paypal), and asked to dispute charges. To make long story short, I lost both the items and my money.

Postal Money Order might be better. They have certain procedure to track the MO.

Honestly, as a buyer, I think PayPal has better protection. If you file a complaint of non reciept within 30 days of transaction, the seller must provide online tracking of package to your confirmed address. With Money orders, you have a case for mail fraud, but they take months and months to investigate and you'll be lucky to ever see your money. That being said. I have been burned as a buyer using PayPal before. That's because the seller has a zero balance in his account and I am told that he will have to refund my money before he can ever use the service again:rolleyes:

The Very best protection for you as a buyer here at BFC is the Good Bad and Ugly forum. If you do a search and turn up with nothing but positives, then I HIGHLY doubt you will have any problems. If you don't come up with anything in a search, don't be afraid to post a Question thread there asking about the seller. I am sure you could get some responses that way and the seller shouldn't be upset, your just looking out for yourself.:)

PayPal won't help you but if you used a credit card via PayPal, your credit card company will. Been there and done that.
