Buying a lot of Knives vs 1 Expensive Knife -Philosophy?

Buy well (not necessarily expensive) first and cut that cost.

It didn't cut my costs.
I still buy; inexpensive, expensive, custom and production.
And then I make some too. :)

Seeing how many people own multiple CRK, Strider, Hinderer and other expensive knives, I doubt many people are going to go out and drop $400 on a knife and have it be the only one. Hobbyists buy high end knives, and hobbyists tend to own multiple items of whatever it is they're interested in.

Fits me overall. But where you draw the line of "expensive versus cheap or inexpensive" is the key. I consider your "expensive" list to be middle priced for the most part.. But it wasn't so long ago that I would have said a Delica or Native was "expensive" too.
I consider over $60-$70 to be expensive. For impulses.
If Im actually in the market specific for knives, over $100.
I havent bought any Striders/CRK/Hinderers yet.
Lately, Benchmade has been my focus.

Im also very impatient when it comes to waiting for mail, so I tend to pay retail to have it instantly.
My Delica 4 was $75
My Adamas was $225
But I waited for my Native 5, and paid $130

I think buying more inexpensive knives of quality (Mora, Buck) and more mid-priced knives of quality (Benchmade, Spyderco, ESEE, Becker) is way better than fewer or one really expensive knife. Very broad statement obviously. The thing is, an expensive knife is just as easy to loose as a cheap one. And with cheaper knives, there are more to fondle, experiment with different edges, etc.

There is no right answer. I find myself happiest with knives that don't cost a tremendous amount of money and If you know what you are doing, you are not getting very much less knife. I mean the margin of utility gained going from a Becker to a Busse is miniscule compared to the cost difference. I remain unconvinced that you are getting a cooler knife frankly. One does purchase some bragging rights I suppose but the Becker (just as an example) is a pretty decent knife to form a boast around!
