Buying a nice slippie, advice needed

You'll end up getting all three....as a start!

I favour the G.E. not only hefty but well finished, very well finished.

The Queen Cutlery knife is likely good too

Don't rule out a CASE large Stockman in cv either.

Böker may well have something to offer here as well.

With Traditional knives, a half " here or there does make a surprising difference to the knife. Moreover, the thickness and bulk of the knife is the crucial thing.I recently got a Ka-bar Gunstock and whilst it's about the same length as a CASE Mini Trapper it's a far sturdier and bulkier propositon. You could also consider the Northfield branch of G.E. as well as their Tidioute variant(extra scale choices&sometimes a swedge on offer)

Just curious ........ do you do a lot of surgery with a pocketknife?

Lol, just freelance stuff like removing splinters, cleaning finger nails, cutting blisters, that sort of thing.

So... I ordered one. It came spur of the moment while reading old reviews.
I'm taking the advice on going with the GEC, except instead of the Stockman I went with a Tidioute Scout. I think I'll try a 2-blade first and see if I really need the 3-blade.

I was distraught because I really wanted the Tidioute badge, but also wanted stag handles. I couldn't find one anywhere! I found lots of Northfield stags, but no Tidioutes. Then I check cumberland and low and behold I found this beauty.

It says it's "1 of 50" and the picture shows number 16. Does that mean I'm truly getting number 16 of 50 and there really are only 49 more of these floating around?

Thanks so much for all the advice! I think this will suit my personality much more than a gigantic military folder clipped to my pocket.

You made the absolute best choice you could have possibly made. You won't be sorry! The GEC #73 Scout is the best knife on the market, in my opinion. I am obsessed with them- I have 5 already. I have one in my pocket right now. They're the nicest traditional knives I have ever seen, barring full-blown customs. I need to pick up a stag version like yours before they all dry up. I wouldn't worry too much about the badge- the only difference I've been able to tell between the Northfields and the Tidioutes are the markings and shields.
That's great that you ended up getting exactly what you wanted.

And yes, you are getting a knife of which only 50 examples (or less) have been made. GEC has very low production numbers.

Good taste, man! Not too shabby for your first traditional.

Looks a great knife
Enjoy!
A great introduction into the world of slippies..

I am not clear if it is stag or bone?
Tidioute #73 Scout Burnt Carved Stag Bone

Good choice there, next you'll want one of their lockbacks in stag or bone.....

Shop flea bay and get you a genuine Sharade Old Timer Made in the USA and be done with your search.

Bull Dog makes some good old style carbon blades too. I've got a few of their folders. A bit thicker primary grinds than the Schrades which are real work horse knives but otherwise similar. I'd find you an 8OT Schrade being careful to get the authentic one from before the company folded.
