You DO NOT WANT Micarta for the handle material. The cloth, linen or paper used in Micarta laminate absorbs and retains water. It would be like sandwiching a (thin) carbon blade between 2 wet towels.
Stick with bone, wood or plastic/resin for handle material.
I use a Dovo doubl duck. It works good for me.
You shaved the full monty????????
Just an FYI, the resins that are used to create micarta saturate the fibers pretty much completely (forced under high pressure), and cure to a finished product that is nearly impervious to water. It provides better moisture resistance than pretty much any natural material, and compares well with most synthetics.
Micarta is much more moisture resistant than bone or wood, and being made with resins as one of it's two main ingredients, falls into the same category as "plastic/resin".
Hey, tedd.
Still using the Red Imps you gave me years ago. I like the newer one that was made in Germany better than the older, that was made by Case.
Saw an interesting one in the used display at the cutlery shop the other day. It was flat ground on one side, and hollow on the other. Old/nearly unused, I'm tempted just to see what it's like, but I'm not sure how I'd sharpen the flat side. Interesting old thing.
EBay....EBay.....EBay....!
