buying an expensive knife verse many "cheaper" knives.

I am not always sure what EDC means as to use. I almost get the impression that to many it means for self defense.

Well technicallly whatever knife or type of knife someone carries every day is by definition an EDC knife...

But I think for MOST knife people if you talk about an "EDC Knife" then they will get a mental image of something smaller, lighter and more friendly looking than they would want for SD. A Swiss Army Knife or a Spyderco Delica are sorta reference EDC blades. These are knives designed to accomplish every day light to medium duty cutting tasks. Packages, mail, fruit, string maybe some minor whittling or craft projects...you know, the things you do with your stockman.

I've found thagt I like to have some of both, lower priced and more expensive. What I choose to carry depends on what I'm doing. If I'm concerned about damaging or losing it, the Randall stays home. If I think I'm really going to tear it up, which is rare, I pull out a $12 Big 5 special. I carry something mid priced sometimes because I still want a good knife, but don't want to be crying if it's damaged or lost.

No doubt.:D

But one advantage I've found is that when people find out that the knife cost $400 or more, they no longer think you're gonna go around shankin folks with it.

:D :D
