Buying an XM-18?

That right there doesn't speak very well about your brother in law or yourself (Which I guess you are not a first responder since your BIL has to order it for YOU)
The first responder prices is a benefit for FIRST RESPONDERS ONLY. I pay secondary prices, even though I have friends and BIL that could order one for me at direct price.
That pisses me off and you think its cool to even say it in an open forum.....typed for posterity by you. THANKS to BOTH
Ah, but I frankly wouldn't be surprised if there are lots of people who buy it for that discounted price, then sell the knives on the secondary market for a profit. The essential problem with good intentions is that you're probably the only one who has them:D.

I could be wrong, and I often am, but I'm pretty sure all 4th generation XM-18's currently being produced are only offered in S35VN. I did not have an option to choose blade steel when I made my order. If you are looking for another steel, sometimes they pop up on the exchange here. That's where I got my Duratech 20CV XM, and I didn't pay too much over direct pricing.

Looks like your questions have pretty much been answered. I'l just go on to say that if you like the ZT designs, you'll love the real deal. I have pretty much all of the available ZT designs and while they are VERY nice knives, they're just not the "real deal". That being said, if Hinderer keeps designing knives for ZT, I'll keep buying. ZT knives are 97% of the actual Hinderer IMO but that 3% remains that it's just not a Hinderer.
Here's some shots of the ZT's compared to the Hinderer:

why does this not speak well for me or anyone else? because i pay the price these knives are worth? the prices that hinderer charge are not a discount for first responders, they are what these knives are worth. they are NOT worth 600-800 dollars that people charge on the secondary market. they are 400 dollar knives plain and simple. actually right now im laughing that this makes you "pissed off". im not taking advantage of anyone, the ones being taken advantage of are the simpletons that pay 695 for a production folder thats worth 400. hinderer could control the prices that the secondary market charge but they choose not too. you are not doing anyone a favor by overpaying for a knife. best of luck to you
