Buying bone

I just spent a good time viewing the "Working with "fossil" handle materials by Charles and Courtney Turnage. I will get some mammoth to work on but this also has re-triggered my interest in Giraffe and Camel bone. Mammoth seems like an easy process to buy but bone seems to have some potential problems.

Are there pitfalls when importing bone from outside the US?
I see mentioned that Federal law requires that all bone material be treated. What treatment? Is there a certificate for this?

Thanks-
Dean

There's a fair amount of giraffe and camel bone sold on eBay.

How this for some bone we just got in for a Hawaiian bone hook carving class I'm about to start with a bunch of ninth graders in their Hawaiian studies class?

Here's a link to the sight of the fella that taught me some basic (just enough to be dangerous)...www.louiethefish.com.

Did you check out Culpepper and Co.? They have a quality product in bone of different sizes, colours and finishes. Frank

A bit OT but there are good vids on youtube on whitening bone with H2O2 and a microwave
