Hey everyone, i had some questions. As you probably know, my site is set up to buy single blocks with photos and measurements of each block. As you also probably know this raises the price as it means more time, storage and tracking.

Now that i am home though, i have access to my full shop including some MASSIVE tools like the 25k feder table saw with powered feed and 10 horse power blade "O yeah!" and i thought i could make bulk blocks.

That is to say blocks not indiviually photographed at greatly reduced prices. I wanted to know if thats something you would consider. These wouldnt be fancy woods, mostly things like Cocobolo, kingwood and African Blackwood.

Is this something you would be interested in? If not i can always cut the lumber for luithers, turners and what not. but i do like to give you guys the ifrst chance at my material.

I only make a hand full of knives a year. Handle shopping is part of the fun. I prefer to pay a bit more per block but know what I'll get.
My 2c.

For us hobbyist knife makers, I agree picking out that just right piece of wood is part of the fun. Combine that with the fact I don't make enough knives to go through a bulk option of anything, and a bulk option is something I'd never take advantage of. My guess is the guys actually looking to make money doing this might feel differently though.

Maybe both? Shouldn't be too time consuming to post one pic if a bulk piece to show what you'd be getting?

For all of my common wood I buy planks and resaw it myself.
About the only thing I'd buy blocks of would be burl or highly figured wood. And those I'd want individual pictures of.

But if I didn't have the shop to deal with things like lignum vitae 2x12s, I'd love the option of buying some woods like ebony and various Rosewoods in precut blocks for a lower price and just taking what I got

From what I understand you're saying, you'd be adding another facet to your site. Selling individual blocks would still be there, but there was also be the option of looking at bulk blocks? If so, that sounds like win-win to me. Folks who want bulk buy have what they want, folks who want individual blocks still have what they want. Go both.

i like to hand pick cause not even the best burl in one set of eyes might not be what im after i love contrasty straight grain ironwood and would pick it over bland burl. cass with most larger makers i now buy large wood and resaw myself and send out for stablizing. here is the latest buy needed walnut for 14 inch plates and got to keep the "waste" wood 22 blocks of 2x6x1.25 walnut crotch and contrasted grain 18765736_10208795357391897_1132667281556217406_n.jpg
