I've developed a taste for a little more expensive knives lately: BM, Spyderco, Microtech...
Generally the ones I want cost more than $100-$250.

But, sometimes, I just get the itch to BUY something even though I know I shouldn't ($$$). So when this happens I go on Ebay or the forums and spend $30-$45 just to scratch the itch.

For me, lately, it's been Spydercos with a FRN handle like a little MeerKat or Delica or something like that by Spyderco. But I've been known to buy SOG Autoclips, CRKT knives, Bucks or Kershaws.

Anyone else do this to scratch the itch?

What cheap knife do you choose? Is it just an impulse or do you have a cheap-knife favorite?

spyderco all the way... most of the ones I'm into now are 200usd factory, so I scratch the itch by buying on bfc and other knife forums. next one is a fb05 for 55usd shipped, NIB.

I had to scratch the itch a few days ago...with a HI 20" Ang Khola!

Benchmades.. With all the Microtechs and customs out there, BMs are now my "cheap" itch stratchers

I'll occasionally pick up an Opinel or visit a knife shop and pick up an inexpensive fixed blade of no particular make. That's about it.

Always got the itch...

I just can't get into anything less than BM quality. IMO BM is the best in it's class and wouldn't settle for anything less.
When ya got an itch, go fer the benchmades.

I would never buy cheap blades just to feed an itch, a waste of money if you ask me. Be patient and get the good sh!t ;)

Spydercos are not always that cheap, depending on the model but they are good to buy. Some I will keep forever, others are good for selling and at least recouping some cash for other purchases:o

Last time around...
Old Hickory kitchen knife and a Swedish Army Knife (Frosts)
Itch scratchers that get work :)

I generally only use/buy either folders - CRKT do the job for me. But nothing beats a carbon steel knife in a hard user - I've gone as far as losing a CS Master Hunter in Carbon V in the field and its amazing but there is a range of carbon steel knives out there - hard to find but when you find them, they can actually be quite cheap. Opinel gets my vote as absolute best bang for buck / cut for buck. At about $7 for the medium version with collar lock. I have used mine for everything up to an including leatherwork in the shop. I have purchased 7 in total and used each till they died an honourable death.

My "itching" has almost completely gone away after I bought my first Sebenza, but I usually get the itch when I send it into CRK for work to be done on it. When I sent my large Sebbie in, I bought an Arc-Lite. I sent my small Sebbie in for a sharpening 2 weeks ago and I bought a Benchmade Griptilian off of a fellow forumite. When I have both of my Sebbies, there's no itch. Once one of them gets sent off to CRK, I try to keep it under $50.:D

I've picked up a few of the inexpensive CRKT blades lately. I even picked up a Ka Bar/Maserin folder. (I wasn't too impressed with it though).

I've been going through a Knife Drought for a while, and I'm trying to save my money for Blade Show, but I did get an itch last week. I scratched that itch by getting a Spyderco Kiwi. What a great little knife. The quality appears to be on par with my Spydie/Horn C27, and the C27 is on par with many handmade knives I've handled.

At the same time I ordered the Kiwi I also ordered a Buck 112 for my sister-in-law, to replace a Pakistani POS she was using.. I don't own a Buck at the moment, but it sure felt good to handle this Ranger.

Mostly I scratch at the flea market:D alright bad pun, but seriously I've satisfied that knife buying itch many times at the flea market, living in the North East there are tons of old slip joints floating around, considering that most of the knife mnfg. in the early part of the 1900 were located here, there is a lot to find and that's half the fun.

I'm waiting for a CRK small tanto Sebenza. I ordered a Buck 560 to scratch the itch till it comes in.:D
I'm saving a Victorinox Electrician for itch satisfaction at a later date.

Believing that there is a difference between Cheap and Piece of **** I guess my cheapest knives to scratch an itch have been Bucks, spydercos and Camillus stockmans and the occasional Old Timer slip joint.

Yes, satisfies the urge nicely.

I've been wanting a CRKT Delilah's Peck - Black and Gold...

...it's causing a terrible itch.

My last 'Itch Scratcher' was a Taylor (err i mean Smith and Wesson)
Neck Knife Tanto.

Cost was all of $14.00.

That said I stay away from cheaper stuff nowadays, it just eats up space and cash that can towards something really good.

Love that Powerglide though, can't put it down :p
