Buying doubles of your favorite knives

The only knife I've bought doubles of is the now discontinued left handed Spyderco Military. I got one at a pretty good discount as a backup in case I lose my primary one.

I did doubles briefly, and I realized how silly it was. I have enough variety where if one has gone missing, I can replace it with other knives. Only exception is customs, but customs tend to be one of a kind knife anyway. :)

Denial is a river in Egypt
Granted, most are variants and not precise doubles

I have doubles in knives I really like but usually slightly different style. But I've never had exact duplicates.

I'm in Whitty's camp here. If I like a knife enough to carry it a lot, I'll probably end up with a backup because there aren't that many that I really like. There are a lot of knives that I find interesting and quite a few of them end up at my house, at least temporarily. But there are only a few that I really like enough to make them permanent. Those I like to backup.

You found the knife you like... you earned the money for it... spend it the way you want to.

I have doubles, triples and sometimes even more of the same knives. :o

I can't help it...I'm an unapologetic accumulator.

Buying multiple copies of the same knife is silly.

In other news, here is a photo of the knives I carry most:

I have five different pm2s. Love them! Black/satin black/black camo/satin grey/satin blue/satin

I have multiples of a few, some for collecting purposes and others as spares. For instance, I *love* the Kershaw Groove and bought a second (used) one so I could keep the first one NIB. They are identical. The import Kershaw RJI with black blade and no serrations is one of my favorite EDCs, and I already owned two, but tracked down another when I found out that variation was discontinued. There are a few others I bought duplicates of for similar reasons, but mostly for users rather than safe queens. The ones that I consider true examples of what I like about knives, such as the Groove, are worth owning two (or more) of, even if not of particular cash value.

I like to have a black one and a brown one, that way if wearing black boots, belt, jacket you can carry a black knife and brown boots, belt, jacket a brown one. For a few years I mostly carried the PM2. I am now carrying a Sebenza most often. I bought the black one first with the intent of getting the brown (Cocobolo inlay) knife next. But the Starbenza came up and I couldn't pass it up. The Starbenza really carries with black or brown, but may one day get the Cocobolo inlay knife too.
