I know many of you are going to think this is a stupid question, but I never bought anything on Ebay so I'm wondering.

Is it safe.

I recently found a Bear and Sons Bowie with a bone handle that wound up selling for less than 63 bucks. I was afraid to bid on it because the price was about half of what I had seen the knive sold for elsewhere.

Is Ebay safe?

I think eBay is relative safe, as long as you're knowledgeable about the item being auctioned. It's a terrible place to buy historic knives because there are so many forgeries, but I do well buying relatively modern knives that I'm familiar with.

You may be able to find Bear knives on closeout or overstock. Sierra Trading Post has them sometimes on closeout. Smoky Mountain Knife Works also has low prices on Bear & Sons.

I have almost 450 transactions on ebay with very few problems. Just remember to check the sellers feedback score before bidding. This will be a very good indication of their integrity and professionalism.

yeah, only do business with sellers who have a significant volume of recent business and a 98%+ rating, and you should be fine. I have been, no bad deals in maybe two dozen purchases in the last 2 years or so.

Ebay has saved me a ton of money buying knives and a lot of other things. Like has been stated, if you research the sellers feedback there is not that much of a chance of something going wrong.

Not to imply that all sellers from overseas sell cheap knockoffs...

but, I only deal with sellers in the U.S. Being in the same country, if there are any issues, there's a far better chance of having any problems resolved if the buyer and seller are from the same country.

Great place to find knives as long as you know what you are looking for. Please check feedback, it will save you.

Yeah, I've had very few problems. Generally, people are honest, and so are ebay sellers/buyers.

Look at feedbacks, stay in North America, know what your looking at, etc.

For purchases over a certain amount, I like the credit card/PayPal option.

I'd say to keep this in mind... Only US Sellers, multiple transactions in the last 6 months. Check feedback

flamesnknives- I've bought from them a few times, never any problems

I bought a lot of knives in ebay. I find I get knives less expensive there. Of course, you have to know your prices. And you should always deal with a reputable seller --- which you can easily verify by looking at their history. As a rule, I don't deal with sellers who have less than 99.7% positive rating, and I like to see at least a hundred feedback on the seller.

I love finding great deals on ebay! Bought alot knives off ebay, gonna buy alot more. But...

Listen to what everyone else has said about feedback; frequency of transactions, buying to selling ratio, types of items previuosly sold. Also have a look at what the seller has bought recently. Can sometimes tell you alot about them. Make sure you check out what the shipping cost is too. No way you should pay $23 for shipping on a folding knife. I see crap like that alot. Waaay low starting price; jacked shipping fee to even it out. And don't place a bid right away without checking all that stuff first because you found just what you were looking for. There might be a better deal on the next page or even at an on-line dealer like New Graham. Patience and research. It saved me alot of money and frustation.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Happy/Safe Hunting. :)

Sometimes eBay is a good deal, sometimes it isn't. You really have to know your knife market. I buy and sell on eBay frequently. I use the proceeds from my sales to feed my knife addiction. As long as you use Paypal you should be safe. Paypal favors the buyer ALWAYS. I know because they've screwed me on more than one occasion.
