Buying knives you don't intend to use?

I think THG is probably right. If you collect, you will one day see your collection as deadweight.

On the plus side, if not for collectors, we would not have so many high-end makers of beautiful knives, ideas from which might eventually find their way into the design of a user knife that I might buy. When I visit purveyor sites and see all the 'sold' tags on $2000 knives, I always wonder: 'who is buying all these things.' The answer is collectors, of course.

Too bad that moron politician have decided to outlaw certain designs based on old 'B' martial arts flicks that they saw. If you get a chance, move to a state where they are legal.

Don't worry, though. I adore my knives as well. I have a hard time using them for the first time. I have to remind myself, "It's good for the knife... Gives it character... Gives it stories to tell..." haha

I guess it's just the money that's an issue for me.

I am a "user" so I wouldn't buy something I can't use. Guess you could use it around the house but as others said, if that is what you like to do then by all means go for it. Nothing wrong with collecting if it makes you happy!!

Buying knives that you will never use? Welcome to the Collector's Club!

Just dont' try explaining it to your better half or non-knife friends. They just don't understand us.

Collecting is the biggest waste of money ever... I collected pokemon cards and never did anything with them. Now I want to jump off a cliff....

I know, I'm going to get flamed :)

I hope so - because you deserve it. :D (making "sweeping" generalizations like that. Or - was that your intent. ;) )

But seriously, I do understand completely where the "I only buy what I use!" segment is coming from, as well as their rationale. And yes, it is finance-dependant in many cases. And, like it or not, every one of you is also a "collector" - of EDC knives! :D

(trite phrase coming up: If you, collector or user, appreciate a decent knife, it's all good. Right? )
