buying my 1st buck knife - suggestions?

Oh, and I agree with the fellers above. Order a Custom Shoppe 110, and get him a Yaller 'Andled 301 for his pocket. He'll end up carrying both.

You guys are great! Seems like no matter which knife I choose it will be a good one. I ended up ordering a custom 110. I had fun doing it and got his last name engraved on the blade. I got a S30V blade, and asian waterbuffalo handle with nickel bolster (no rivets). I hope you guys approve. I'm going to go to the store to pick out his cheaper everyday knife so I haven't decided on that just yet.

No, really the guys here will tell you I like that frame and handle material . Did you order the smooth or routed buffalo horn ? I also like no rivets . On this one I wouldn't mind if it didn't have finger grooves . That style looks great by its self . Like a white shirt, black tie with a black dinner jacket . It never goes out of style . Wrap it in a pair of black leather boots (sheath) and you'll have a happy guy . I'm putting 10 bucks on this girl getting a dinner date out of her guy when she's gives him this knife .

Yeah, my wife allows me my passion, so, no problems here, either. But, just for future reference, do you have a sister?

Nice choice on the knife, but, I like rivets and finger grooves. We all have slightly different tastes, but, that's why Buck offers so many choices. I would add a custom made holster now, that would really show that knife off.

One last request, once it's on board, send us a picture of the knife and the happy couple. You've now become part of the family........

Goto walmart, $30 for a standard 110...give him the 110 first and see the grin he gets, then give him the custom 110 :D
 
I would go with the buck 110. If you don't like the 420HC blade you can always go to the custom shop and get one with a s30v blade. the custom shop knives cost around $100 dollars or so.

That is going to be a very nice looking and hard working knife. Your man is going to love it; once he trys that S30V in deer camp...he will EDC it for life. I hpoe he knows how lucky he is to have a wonderful lady like you!

I ordered the smooth buffalo horn. I like that you compared it to a white shirt, black tie with black dinner jacket, because that's what I was going for. After much back and forth on rivets/no rivets, finger grooves/no finger groves I decided to keep it simple since I know he won't use a custom for everyday use.

Thanks again to all of you for your help and approval on my design. I'll post a picture once we have it! I can't believe I'm so excited about a knife... I might have to start collecting myself :p
