Buying my first folding knife

It's not that i'm concerned about the lock failing, but when you press on the liner the blade unlocks right? Isn't that something that could happen by accident when the knife is in use ?

Hows about spyderco gayle bradle? It is a fabulous hard use knife. The lock is not going to accidentally get moved during use. Beautiful carbon fiber scales, thick liner, cpm m4 steel

Mcusta knives are quite good, and typically well-made. The "damascus" blade in this instance is actually a core of VG-10 steel with many layers of nickel on top to create the pattern you see. VG-10 is regarded as a stainless steel (it doesn't rust easily), and I believe nickel is resistant to rust, so that should not be a concern. (Just ensure your knives are dry when you store them.)
I'd rather not risk it with damascus, I live in a very rainy country. Found 1 Mcusta that's only VG-10 the Mcusta MC-14R Basic folder, Which looks great!

If you are concerned with blade play I would stay away from any SOG assisted knife. All of my SOG assisted knives have a considerable amount of blade play. After inquiring about this issue to SOG customer service I was told "all assisted knives have blade play" which I find interesting as none of my Benchmade or Kershaw assisteds have play like SOGS do. Just my experience.
Thanks for the info, guess I'll say away from SOG.

I found 1 dutch webstore selling it, but for far over 200 Euro's, that's just too much for me. It looks great though.

I now have a couple of knives in mind, which would you recommend out of these?

Zero Tolerance 0566, Rick Hinderer (195 euro)
Zero tolerance ZT-566 (165 euro)
Not sure if these 2 are the same, the specs are a little different on 2 different webstores.

Mcusta MC-14R Basic folder (115 euro)
Benchmade Griptillian (120 euro)
Spyderco Manix 2 black (140 euro) Maybe.

Also I have to learn to sharpen knives, so maybe a cheap decent edc knife would be nice as a secondary? Like the Ka-Bar dozier? And which stone to sharpen knives would be good for a novice?
Sorry for all the questions, I really appreciate the help!

The Spyderco Manix is a good knife. It was my first quality knife not from a Gas Station or from BudK .

The final choice will really come down to your needs.

All of your choices are heavy duty knives , except for the Mcusta , but all are good knives.

IMO , ZT makes a production knife that is outstanding. It's a heavy duty knife with a thick blade, but as far as satisfaction for your money, this one would probably please you most.

Of all you choices I'd buy the ZT or the Manix 2.

The Manix 2 has a more versatile blade ( again IMO) , it's a better multi purpose knife. I'd even use it to field dress game.

The Mcusta is a borderline gentleman's knife, also a fine knife , but better for lighter work.

The Grip, while a good knife , left me underwhelmed. It has a cheap feeling hollow handle.

I like the more heavy duty knives, so for now I'll cross Mcusta of the list. as well as the Griptillian,
The Manix looks nice but I don't like that It doesn't have a thumbscrew.

If you don't like spyderco and don't want a liner/framelock that pretty much leaves u w sog and benchmade for production folders. I'd say cough up a few bucks and get the benchmade. The axis lock is the best lock out IMO, and they make beautiful, smooth knives. I don't feel the same about sog.

Now as far as not liking spydercos, they are a bit of an acquired a taste, but I will say as far as blade geometry and cutting performance I ALWAYS find and myself going for a spyderco when I want to cut something precisely and as perfectly as possible.

You won't be disappointed with the ZT.

I could pay 15 euro's more and buy the Zero Tolerance 0200. Is that worth it ? That blade however looks harder to sharpen due to the curves.

The 0200 is a liner locking knife ( has the G10 scales on both sides). The 566 is a frame lock with only G10 on the non-locking side.
But the liner on the 0200 is very thick and it too is a heavy duty knife. I had one , but sold it. It was just a little too heavy and bulky for me , plus I'm not a big fan of coated blades.
As far as quality, the 0200 is an excellent knife.

The only other consideration is that the 566 has a spring assist , while the 0200 is a manual flipper.
Also the price differences you saw with the 566 is because they come in a few configurations. The g10 uncoated ( blade) 566 is the least expensive.

Yes the recurve blade is a little harder to sharpen.

Ok I'm going to order the 566, and for the cheap knife the ka-bar dozier I think.
What will I need for sharpening?

I sharpen free hand on a pair of Arkansas stones ( course and fine).
But the Spyderco Sharpmaker is well regarded around here for helping keep the correct angles.

I've just received bad news so I have to cut my budget in half.
And I found a griptillian tanto for only 90 euro instead of 120 so I wen't for that.
Thanks everyone for the help, I really appreciate it!
