Buying my First Shiro

This helped me

There looks to be a small flaw with the chart, there is no mention of the Neon Lite with Titanium scales and Hation lite with Carbon Fiber on the presentation scale, both have 3.25" blades

It’s a bad time to look for a Shiro.

I cannot be certain, but I think the Russian sanctions are having an effect on exports to the USA. Dealers haven’t restocked in weeks and prices on the secondary market are climbing.

That said, they are terrific knives
Cheburkov told me there is no way for them to receive money from the US but can ship knives out if some how you found a way to circumvent this $$ problem.
Just received 2 a couple of weeks ago before this new predicament surfaced.
I would assume this applies to Shiro too.

Arizona custom knives also carries Shiros.
You can select specific designers/brands to subscribe to, and you get an email every time there is new stock from those, which is really handy

EDIT: I am not sure if they actually get any brand new Shiros from the source, maybe they are all on consignment from their original owners. So, always read the description well, and be sure to ask for details since they don't really upload photos with the faults (from what i've seen so far at least)

I’ve owned a number of Shiros. However, all but one has been sold.

I agree, the single row bearings are so smooth. I like them more than the double row. The F95 series are fantastic, if you like a large knife.

I’ve still got my Neon Zero, just not sure for how long. 🤣😂🤣😂

I had a Neon Lite but ended up selling it. For me it was an easy choice because everything except the Neon/Hation is too big for me to ever carry or use. I ended up selling it though because it was finicky about holding it just right when opening to not touch the lockbar and it did not have a good two-handed option like pinch to open.

I think the only thing that would tempt me back to Shirogorov would be a liner lock like the F3 that's Neon sized or smaller, and that I could get for < $500.

I grabbed a Neon NL Saturday from Knife Center, another orange/black Micarta-inlaid model to go with fhe "KC" F95NL I ordered Feb 20. Again, I must have gotten the last one, as it went "unavailable" afterward.

Good choice. Very comfy in the hands and Shiro does a really nice liner lock. Please let us know you are liking it.

Hey y’all—I ended up purchasing a Quantum Gen 2 from a member here, and it is just a gorgeous knife!

The combination of capability, beauty, ease of deployment and closing, weight relative to length, construction, ergonomics… this thing is literally perfect.

The only thing I could possibly complain about would be the price tag, but it’s kinda totally worth it.

Thanks everyone for their input and knowledge!

Don’t be put off by the bearings and cleaning. Mine felt slightly gritty the other day after a couple months of carry so I gave it a rinse under some hot water while working the blade. Blew it out and put it back in my pocket as I‘ve read that plenty of people run them dry. It was super smooth after that simple method.

I’m about to ask around and figure out what kind of tool is best for the screws, and then I’m going to clean it.

I actually clean all my knives while I break them in, because when the bearings and detent ball wear tracks in, they get metal dust in the lube and slow the action down.

I might try the rinse—sounds easier than disassembly, and I don’t need a tool.

Leo Greer Leo Greer I purchased the Shiro bits from REK Knives REK Knives . They’re nice but expensive for a few bits. Of course the knives are $1k so it’s all relative I guess haha. Even with the bits, I’ve yet to break one of my Shiros down although I have had to tighten a few of the fasteners over time. Prior to getting the bits I used a standard screwdriver but taped the end up so there wasn’t metal to Ti contact.

I saw those in my web search the other day! I actually had to use a folded credit card on of the screws on mine the other day, so the actual tool might be worth it… but taped up screwdriver sounds pretty cost effective.

Either way, I’m sure I can figure it out.
