Hello!

Im looking to buy a new tactical knife, but im not sure what to get. I have seen som reviews on youtube and so but still im not sure.
Kydex sheath i preferred, since it will be attached to a Safariland dropleg pistolholster.
Size: 4-5" approx.
Plain edge
Want a combatknife that also is more of a general purpose. So not a double edged dagger.
Price: not too expensive (<150$)

These are the ones ive been looking at:

SOG Seal Pup Elite
Benchmade Nimravus 4.5
ZT 0170

Would also like other recomendations :)

thanks

if you can stretch your budget a little how about a CRK Professional Soldier?

edit: nevermind, the blade is smaller than you were looking for.

I will check it out.

Just saw some reviews of the Benchmade Nim cub 3.5", that one looked descent! 3.5" is ok ;)

Looks cool but its not very practical. I live in Norway where we have very cold winters, like -30 celsius, and then its good not to have your hands on raw and ice cold steel. Might work wrapping it with paracord, then it would be great i guess

Get a esee rc-6 w/clip-point. Or rc-4 if that's the size you want.

Bark River makes some good utility knives in your size range.

Look up the Fox River, Highland Special, Bravo-1 and Gunny.

Hi turbo-henrik -

Have you considered that you could have one of the custom makers here make you a knife to your specific design?

Stomper (JK Handmade Knives) could make you a knife just as you describe, with whatever little design items you would want, for that price. He even makes kydex sheaths for the knives he makes if you wish.

Here is the combat/survival knife he made for me, although it is a little larger than what you specify. (I was not sure if you meant 6" blade, or 6" overall - this one is 8.5" overall)

You can talk to Stomper at his forum here:

Good luck and best regards -

I'd either go handmade.. or...

ESEE (pick the one you like.. 4,5,6, Hest)
Swamp Rat (Ratmandu or HRLM)

Esee has clip-point models avail on some...

worth looking into IMO

Scrapyard was much cheaper than expected, i thought they were like 300$

How is the ESEE knives compared to the ontario ones? Im not happy with my ontarios so far.

Custom could be an option :)

Fallkniven F1 is cool, but i already have the S1. The knife im buying now will take alot "punishment" out in the field, dont want to ruin my Fallkniven, its too perfect.

ESEE's knives blow ontario's knives out of the water. they are simply good knives and they have the best warranty you could ask for, if the knife breaks they will replace it.

Hi turbo-henrik -

I don't have any experience with the Rat/Ontario knives, but many avid users here love them.

I think an Izula is a mandatory "must have" knife for anyone that either likes knives or really uses them. I have one and really like it - and that may be an option for you to start with. My Izula is the Rowen-made version.

To give you an idea of the little Izula's capabilities, here is a cool test video (not a destruction test).

Once you get an Izula, then you can come over to the JK forum and have a knife made just for you. :D

Those Izulas look sweet! How is the sheath? Does it lock the blade good enough for vertcal uppsidedown carry? Ive also seen some ranger knives that looks descent

Hi turbo-henrik -

Yes - the ESEE sheath holds onto the Izula very firmly - you have to pop the sheath away from the knife with your thumb.

The fellow who did the video above has a "part 1" that shows the sheath and his comments regarding the sheath.

Here is a link to pictures of my Izula that I took when I bought it -

Call me crazy, but wouldn't one of the many fine knives made in Norway (Bruseletto, Helle, Stromeng) suit your needs ideally?

None of them have exposed tangs. Know why? Because the people in Norway who designed them know its really cold up there.
