In theory, nice products are there because you only need one and it'll last..
How did our acquisition "disorders" arrive?

There's more than one way to skin a cat and each manner of cat-skinning has a wide array high-quality knives available.

there are more forces at work than just "need" when we buy knives!

My reason: knives are beautiful. I like to own beautiful things. :D

well i've been told I have ADD and that can lead to...............

what were we talking about?

oh hey look a kitty!

I'd rather aquire two or three really good knives than twenty or thirty mediocre ones. Having the most knives has never been important to me.

Ya only need one. But it has to be the RIGHT one. And how do you know you have the right one until you try the others?

There is no limit to "nice," you get one, then find one better, and so on and so on, until you get a great production knife, then you realize that nobody is the same and a custom made is what you need, after that you realize that there is a different task for every knife, you buy more. And by the time you find what you need you have a huge stash on your hands.

Then there are those who collect as a hobby, for them form is as important as function, so they end up with a huge stash and a huge collection.

me I buy a knife, and use it until its useless, and if I buy another knife i make sure its suited for different task. (i.e. as a pocket knife I carry a small kershaw, and am happy with it, but its a useless self defense knife by my standards, so I'm buying one that will be able to do both.)

Don't kid yourselves people, we all have an uncontrollable sick addiction to knives. I mean, you're part of a knife forum for christ's sake!

Although I sympathize with and judge nobody, I'm the guy who owns two folding knives, a Delica and Buck 110. All my cutting needs have been satisfied with these and I have no desire to accumulate any more.

My involvement in knifeknut forums is because I find the subject interesting and have learned a lot about knifecraft here, which includes almost everything I know, outside of practical experience.

Multitools is another story.

Okay znapschatz, when's your parole?

:confused::D

I am about quality and quantity. Its funny I buy sebenza's, striders, busse's etc etc. Then i'll buy 10 mora's hahaha. Just yesterday I bought an Endura ZDP and a Caly ZDP/Carbon fiber....didnt need them at all. Just wanted em. Its an addiction and its insatiable.

THEY have it and I want it. Its silly but I am always looking for great value when I buy a knife. I want a knife that out performs it price and the expectations of myself and other. I love it when a 12.00 Mora shows up a 400.00 customer knife. Of course then you need some custom knives for comparison.

to me its not a matter of "what shows up what" its just having them, I have knives upon knives....ironically I dont compare them much, I just rotate and use and I am happy. I have a couple of knives I say I lean on...or my edc extremes but the rest just get pulled in and out. I have enought pocket knives to have a new one every day of the week, but thats why we have 4 pockets. To carry 4 every day of the week:D

What is this word "need"? Does it have something to do with buying knives?

My addiction started when I was about 22, now here about 40 years later, I sit with a "Collection" Most of mine were EDC's to begin with, then I decided I did not want to mess them up and started keeping them without carrying them.
It is an addiction, a sick one at that. Cost a lot more than drugs, just how many fixes can an drug addict get for 400 bucks? After all, I am just like the drug addict, all I need is one more fix.:D:D
