Buying shoes/boots on-line?

I recently bought some boots on-line, off of ebay, mainly because of price, but I also could not find them locally.

After wearing them for right at 3 hours, indoors, over a period of two days, I know these boots are not right for my feet, due to the way they are stitched.

I sent off an email to the ebay seller, who also has an internet store, asking about a return and describing exactly what I did with the boots.
I recieved an immediate reply saying I could not return them because I wore them for 3 hours, and now they can't sell them as having never been worn.
They have a return policy on ebay, and on their web site.
WTF? I am trying hard to understand their point of view, but hell, I can wear boots for 3 hours in the store and not buy them, or buy them and bring them back. These boots are still brand new, or as brand new as pretty much any boot/shoe you try on in a shoe store.

Am I just out not seeing what's right here?

If they hve a return policy, and you bought them with a CC, return them.

I have trouble finding shoes and boots, myself, as I wear a 14.5 narrow(B).
I ordered a pair of Nocona custom sized through Sheplers on-line. They're going for $209 or so these days...I like em.

Off to G&G. Though somehow I think this might end up in TGB&U.

Have you actually read that return policy? If you haven't, I think you're going to be surprised....

Can you really? Have you tried it -- either? You couldn't do either at the shoe stores I go to....

I don't want to return them if they are not willing to accept them.
At this point, I am just curious if I am being somewhat unreasonable in thinking returning boots that show absolutely no signs of any wear at all is being unreasonable.

I have bought boots from Zappos, found they did not fit correctly, and returned them, no questions asked. Of course I wore them, indoors. How else would I know they were not right for me?

I did read the return policy, and they say the boots cannot show signs of wear. They do say they can't be "worn", but it is unclear if they are saying, literally worn, or showing signs of wear.

I have exchanged returned boots at Academy, Cavenders, etc. I have worn boots for quite awhile in these stores, and have never had anyone complain if I end up not buying them. Or if I do buy them and bring them back, in as new condition of course.
That was my whole point of making sure to wear them only indoors.

Hi Mike-

Get your credit card company involved with this transaction. Dispute the charge immediately and inform the credit card company that you sought a reasonable solution, but that all your efforts were unsuccessful.

I've been wearing Redwings for about a year and they are about the most uncomfortable boots I've ever bought. You'd think for the crazy money they go for they would be better. :thumbdn: :thumbdn:

I recently bought another pair of Catipillar boots and some Dr Scholls Gel inserts and they are comfy as anything. You wouldn't think tractor manufactuers could get boots right but they are darn nice. Bought them at a Farm and Fleet.

I'm gel'n like a felon.

As far as getting a refund from an ebay dealer I'd say don't hold your breath, just resell them.

Redwings are way overrated. I overpronate very badly and they only made things worse. I bought the boots they said were their top seller in it's class. Steel toe 6 inchers. Paid almost 200 after taxes. I wore them out in 4 months including the leather coming loose from the steel toe.
