Buying the right Case Swayback Jack the first time

That's a good call. If you look at the knives side by side, there are quite a few differences.

Another thing to consider is that the Bermuda Green is from the Pocket Worn line which means that the knife will be buffed more than usual (i.e. the corners of the bolsters will be rounded off and the scales will be smoother and more rounded).

I don't think the chestnut bone/CV version is more expensive. At least it's not at my favorite inet dealer. I think that all of the SBJs and SBGs are very nice. I have always felt that the chestnut bone/CV version I bought was the best value I have ever had for a production knife. That's the one I recommend.

I like the old reddish color of the chestnut. I used to want a bunch of colors, but now after being here, i like the traditional colors best. And i do know that the swayback can handle a lot!! No matter what color or steel it is.

Tough deciding. The Chestnut is growing on me. And it's got the CV. But the "pocket worn" aspects of the Bermuda Green are compelling. And I like knives to be differentiated from one another, and the green would help. I know "buy both" is an answer, but it's not the right answer for me at this time.

Found my long lost Buck 301 Stockman today! I may have to carry that for a week or two to scratch my traditional itch while I decide on the perfect SBJ for me.

I wasn't too keen on the chestnut bone based on pictures. But I got it anyways for their CV Steel, and when I recieved it I was immediately glad of my choice. I like the scales much better in person.

That said, their SS is fine, too. And if the green speaks to you, you probably won't be disappointed.

I have the green from when it was first introduced a few years ago. It was seemingly the only bare ended option at the time and there was no CV. I never had a green knife but went on with it. The knife is a true delight to carry and use. I think of that knife as one of my best purchases. That little green guy is with me for long stretches at a time until the "yeller fella" (Yellow CV Peanut) bumps him out for a bit. Those 2 little knives are the center of my EDC sharps.

I just received my Chestnut bone CV SBJ in the mail yesterday and I'm already very pleased with it.

As others have said, I don't think you'll be displeased no matter which version you decide upon. It is a very nice pattern and very pocket friendly.

I EDC a Bermuda Green one. I love the color--reminds me of lime popsicles on hot summer days. :)

Am not a fan of green anything, get the one that floats your boat. SBJs are great pocket knives, best traditional bang for the buck IMO. Playing with CV patina is fun, this one currently wears a little Wonder Gun Blue. Colors are accurate, set with a Color Checker.

Gorgeous picture John! That may have been what it took to push me over the edge of deciding for the chestnut bone over the deep canyon chestnut bone. I thought I wanted the deep canyon on a SBJ since I have the chestnut on my peanut, but that is just too good to pass by!

Dang, this thread has got some great pictures in it. I am trying to figure out which SBJ is best for me. I love the patina aspect on the CV and that chestnut sure is pretty.
