Buying your beckers

I got a one from tomars and a couple from dale at the knife connection... Can't go wrong either way

I've got mine from gun shops, pawn shops, flea bay, Tomar's, GPKnives and 1 private purchase. The only ones I'm "missing" are the 4,10,12,13,14,15 and 24. A combination of 11/16/9 seem to cover the gamut of my uses, although on occasion, I replace the 9 with a 7. When I decide I vitally/urgently NEED one of the "missing" ones, I'll go with whomever is cheapest at the time for price+shipping. If that business entity is on line/commercial then the next criteria is whether or not they SUPPORT BladeForums. Unless the price is really, really damn good, I will only order from a BF supporter, e.g., Tomar or GP

Tomars, or GPKnives. The nicest thing is GPKnives is 18.2 miles from where I live so I don't have to worry about shipping charges, shipping times, or getting lost in transit. I've also ordered from TKC, Dale has RIDICULOUSLY fast shipping. But Tomars does too.

Or I buy direct from Ethan when I'm out in Tennessee.

I bought the couple I have from Usamadeblade.com. He doesn't carry all the Beckers, as he's a relatively small company, but the shipping was fast, and the service was top notch. I believe the shipping price is included with all of his knives.

Im surprised this thread has made it this long without anyone mentioning deal spotting. :D

I bought my BK17 from Chestnut Ridge Knife Shop--they have tweeners for $63+shipping. (BF Dealer? Yes!)

I bought the BK14, two BK13s, and the BK9 from a large jungle deep in South America.

I bought the BK2 from "that auction site"...

Bought all three of my Beckers from Amazon.
Best prices, free shipping over $35, usually ships super-fast...

I buy mine from Biscuit. He's running a bootleg operation out of his truck.

Mentioning Amazon isn't deal spotting. If you say "here is the link to amazon they are selling BK-X for $xx.xx" that is deal spotting.

Just saying where you buy from isn't deal spotting. At least that is how I understand it. Mods if I'm wrong lemme know.

I got a warning for saying i got coupons to a tool department type store from another member here.... just for MENTIONING a place that is not a supporting member. No links, not even mentioning a certain product, just for saying the stores name.

I have purchased from a mix of places and it is usually somewhat of a spontaneous purchase when I might be buying other stuff. The one exception was during the maufacturer weekend thingie at that big knife store in East TN (named after some mountains) when Ethan Becker was there. I attended specifically due to Ethan Becker being there. I bought a few that day.

I have bought from Tomars. They are great. I will admit my first Becker purchase from them was costly on shipping and it took the knife about 8 days to get here. I was not thrilled with the costly and slow shipping. But I did order some micarta from Tomars and they got here on day 4, during all that shotty weather last week. Lightning fast considering the cross country trek it had to make. I'm happy with Tomars an the scales.

Shipping is the key for me. I will pay a little more for my Beckers if I can get the knife here quickly. I have ordered from other places if the shipping was free or really low. Now Amazon......I have ordered from them....a lot. I really dig Prime, I mean its just awesome.

Stay away from the Bay though.....unless you are a glutton for punishment.

Here's a tip: Never order on a Friday or Saturday, always order during the week. Orders on Fridays or on the weekend typically don't get processed until Monday. It's hell when you add on 2 to 3 extra days onto an order.

So, you have trouble saying "Smoky Mountain Knife Works"? :D LOL

I don't, but in general non-supporting businesses such as them are not supposed to be referenced by name. But the "rules" tend to be a bit more relaxed on the Becker Forum and subject to the forum mods judgement and disgression.

My BK-15 came from Knifeworks. If anyone asks "where" I usually say Tomars as their prices tend to be very consistant and fair. The BK-2 came from an online dealer/retailer in VA, again not a BF supporting member. I used to buy a lot of stuff from them, still do at times if they have what I'm looking for.

All of you newer members would do well to review the forum rules carefully. For me it's a respect thing. If I don't have enough respect to even bother READING the guidelines set down by the owners of the site, what does that say about me? What does it say about my respect for the community I'm asking to be a part of?

Tomars has good and competitive prices, and is a forum sponsor. They also have great customer service, and fast shipping. There are a number of other great retailers, and it behooves someone who thinks they're likely to buy a lot of knives to do some research. One Stop Knife Shop, for instance, also has good selection, prices, and service, and is owned by Spark, who owns this site. I've been very happy with my few purchases with them, although most of my purchases are done through non forum sponsors, whom I bother periodically to sponsor the site so I can tell people about them. To date, my efforts have been in vain :(

-edit- Actually, it turns out a lot of my favorite retailers ARE sponsors. So I can mention them. BladeHQ, GPKnives, and Knife Works all get my stamp of approval. I'm less fond of sponsor Knife Center. They seem to send out dull knives on a pretty regular basis, some with damage that looks like it can only have come from use. While I don't KNOW that they sell used items as new, I do know there are other places I'd rather spend my hard-earned money. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is a good place to get feedback on sellers. You can find a list of forum sponsors here:
