Wow,
what........to say? I have never had this bad of an experience with a
knife dealer before! Not even close!! Well, not until now. This guy is so unbelievably rude!

I could not believe it! I had ordered three of the #61 othello nicker type knives from bulldog knives in their catalog, via Buzz Parker (the owner). I
realized later that the sheath was missing a part from the catalog picture. I
remembered that it should have a loop that attaches to the sheath from knives Ive seen before (so you can carry it on a belt), one picture of these type of sheaths Ive seen in particular was from Jim Parker's encyclopedia. I should have realized it before as Ive seen many German nicker knives and other German cutlery. Coming from a German family and also living in Wiesbaden Germany for a time (back in the early 90's) Ive had much experience with many different German knives.

Well I called bulldog brand and tried to explain to Buzz that the sheath was missing a part (from what I saw of the picture in the catalog I
ordered it from) and I needed to cancel the order if it really did not come
with the loop (hard to resale incomplete knives as collector times). While
trying to explain myself he became angry and rude and started yelling at me. He told me he had no idea what I was talking about, he accused me of accusing him, of pulling a "fast one" on me, I tried to explain it and he talked
over me, then he said he talked to me for 15 minutes last week and was tired of talking to me again (I had called him Friday to ask him about the availability of some different knives I wanted to purchase, It may have been 5 minutes, or less I talked to him, I was not in the least bit rude to him). Well, he then yelled some more and than slammed the phone down and hung up while I was still on the phone!

Ive heard from some others that he could be rude, but I could not
believe how absolutely belligerent he was. Its a wonder this guy stays in
business. Or if he does stays in business for long? Its usually customary to
treat customers at least with some "little" bit of respect, but this guy does
not, not even close.

Anyone one who knows me, knows that I am courteous, friendly, and I try to be respectful of others (even when they are rude), there was
absolutely no need for the way I was treated by him. I was not rude, or in appropriate to him, not even a little. This e-mail does not do justice to what happened, I still cannot believe it happened. It is completely "irrational".

I absolutely hate writing this, but I hope it does not happen to someone
else. He charged my card already and did not even let me know if the knives had already shipped out, or not. He started to say that he thought he "might" have sent them out, and then starting yelling again. I could not hardly get more than three words out before he would talk/yell over me again!

I do not believe I will ever do business with this person again (for
obvious reasons). If the knives show up I will send them back and hopefully they will get refunded (?). If nothing shows up, or it is not resolved, I will be contacting my bank soon :thumbdn: I still cannot believe how "irrational" his behavior was. I was not rude, did not insult, argue or anything else that was inapproprioate. It was so unbelievably "irrational".

I hope this does not happen to someone else!

I am sorry to hear this Rev. I did business with his dad for a while and was always treated respectfully and fairly by Jim and Buz. No matter what the circumstances the way you were treated was unacceptable.

Some people just shouldn't deal with the public. They don't know how to keep their moods in check. If he was having a bad day, he shouldn't have taken it out on you.

Don't even wait. Contact your bank, cancel the cc payment, and return the knives when/if they arrive.

Well, that was the third time I spoke to him (ever), I think? Once was almost a year ago when I was inquiring about buying some knives, he was really "aloof", odd, very indifferent, kinda rude (did not want to answer any questions). I thought perhaps he was having a bad day? Just put it aside, and went on. Then when I called to order the knives last friday, I asked the person I spoke to on the phone if it was him (buzz). The person said, "no", but then on the phone yesterday he tells me he talked to me 15 minutes last week and he did not want to talk to me anymore. How could he talk to me 15 minutes on the phone, yet he told me friday I was not speaking to him (buzz)? So what to think? It does'nt make any sense, very "irrational".

well, the knives showed up and they are going back today tp him in the mail. I was right about the knives, they are missing some parts (the belt loops), and the quality is average poor quality cheap solingen cutlery. Do not get me wrong, there are many cutleries in solingen (such as Linder, Hirschkrone, Hubertus, Herbertz, "real" othello, etc.) who make decent knvies, but solingen also has those cutleries that make really cheap knives. This one is an example! When I lived in Germany, the othello knives I saw, and bought, were much better quality than these "maitland othello" marked ones. They are suspect! The handles even had some cracks, one in particular, had a large noticeable crack in the handle.

Ive already talked to the bank, and if the knives are not refunded they said they will take care of it (file a dispute). This was definitely one of those "buyer beware" things.

Oh yeah, well, LICK MY N** S@<%. OOPS, wrong thread. :D
Seriously, I hope everything gets worked out as well as it can, since it's not a great situation to begin with.

Thanks, I appreciate that.

I hated writing this, but this was by far, the worse experience Ive ever had in 23 years of collecting/buying knives. I hope it does not happen to someone else.

Well, he got the knives back last week, but no refund yet, so I will give him a little longer than I will have to call the bank. I Would call him, but he hung up on me last time.

Glad you got things worked out. Just to note: Othello – Anton Wingen – is out of business and have not made any knives for some time now. It's doubtful there will ever be any more.

Rev, Sorry to hear this.Glad ya' got your money reimbursed and thanks for the heads up. :)
