I was wondering just how many BWM LE's there are out there? I have one and love it, just don't see many posts about them here. So LE owners, who has the highest serial #?

One could still be ordered, so even if they told you how many there are now, it wouldn't mean much. Still there are plenty, except they are mostly in th safes.

Mine is in the 700's and it does come out of the safe occasionally to beat on some wood. The BWMLE's are awesome knives in my opinion.

Might be more interesting to turn this into a BWM LE user thread ..... and show us your pic's and say how you rate them ....

My three favourite mistresses ..... oh ..... plus the Basic 11 now too .....

It's a great user ....

P1010134.jpg

Keeps pace with a NMFBM although you might need a few more chops ....

P1010233.jpg

You have great control with this one .... easily chops coconut shells without breaking the coconut underneath .... a good sign it can be used as a machete if need be ......

P1010109.jpg

Prep's tinder well too ....

P1010105.jpg

and food .... cuts crusty bread like a hot knife through butter if the edge is good .... and the satin finish enables you to clean the knife properly and know it is clean for food ....

Takes a great edge ..... curls just stick to it .....

and it Batons .....

P1010080.jpg

Mega comfy grips too once you smooth them out .....

Definately worth turning into a "user" but like Beerswimmer says we don't see many pic's of Hogs using them ???? Oh... mine is 617 ... as the photo shows ....

Order one and let us know what number you have, then we will all know :D

Peter,

Great photos and comments as usual.

2 questions:

1) Have you done a one-on-one performance comparison review between the BWMLE and Basic 11?

and

2) How did you maintain the contours of the BWMLE handle slabs so perfectly while completely eliminating any trace of the texturing "ribs" original to the handles? I can't even tell that the lips of the fastener holes are much shallower in relation to the depths of the fastener flanges. Very nice job.

Thanks,
Will

I have'nt done a B11 v BWM LE comparison yet .... hope to do so this weekend .... been away from home with work ....

The sanding was done using a triangular electric hand sander and different grit pads .... then I used some finer wet and dry paper using my fingers .... here is the sander when I did the TTKZ ....

P1000838-1.jpg

I do it outside and use a dust mask .... to be honest the handles still need a little work to take all the marks away .... but when I use the knife on my Molle Vest the handles get a few knocks from other kit anyway .... so it might stay as is .... I mainly did it for comfort. The great thing with this model is that it is "carryable" and similar in balance and feel to the SHBM's which are a lot more expensive ....

The Basic 11 though will be a great "contender" for the same spot ... I will post pic's when the comparison is done .... I have a tree that needs felling so I might give them both a go at that. Might throw in the Basic 9 and BWM CG too .... these all get a fair bit of carry time with me as they are light and well up to the tasks I do.:)

Can't wait.

Thanks for the info on the sander.

Will York, I'm right behind you with #702!

Here's my user pics so far. It's a user, just not many pics!

It's a big, efficient chopper that's not too heavy to bring with me whenever I go into the woods:) Plus I can't hurt this thing, and try alllll the time:D

Is there that much performance gain for the BWM LE over the CG BWM... or the CF???

There is a bit more there .... probably the difference between your SHBM with a flat grind at .25 on the spine and the BWM LE at .22 on the spine but with a sabre grind .... compared to your CF BWM ....

The weights I expect would be very similar for the first two and they are heavier than the .187 flat grind models enabling a bit more chopping performance. Do you have a BWM LE ? I expect so ... given your extensive collection ... if not you ought to get one before they go .... superb "users"

I actually find the BWM LE easier to use than my FBM Satin Flat Grind ( like a LE but a combat over run ) .... but that might be the more comfortable grips .... but it chops at the same pace .... virtually nothing in it .... so your favourite clip point FBM flat grind variant compared to your CF BWM should give an idea of the difference .... if the clip point mic's at .25 to .27. Maybe there is a tad more performance in my FBM flat grind but it all goes on edge and comfort once you get into a large chopping session .... and I spent a lot of time on the BWM LE's edge and grips to get the knife comfortable and the edge geometry right.

I really rate mine and if I want something that works quicker I tend to go straight to the NMFBM ... which from my pic's above is similar in comfort and "feel" but simply has more weight in the swing. As my pic's show I tend to use the Basic9, then the BWM LE and then the NMFBM. The Basic 11 I expect could slide in either below or above the BWM LE .... we will see :D

More good points, Peter.

Do you still see a need for the Basic 9, now that you have a Basic 11? In other words, will you keep both of those knives in your "using" rotation, and if so, why?

Thanks in advance for that perspective.

Not really. AFAIK, you can request a number from Busse, so we still will never know how many were made. I think Jerry likes it that way.

The Basic 9 will stay as my belt kit knife as I can carry it on a rear slanting carry without the handle or blade protruding either side of my back which if it happens means I catch the knife when running or using my arms and also interferes if adopting a sitting position when shooting. This carry option enables me to be able to draw the knife easily when lying prone ... which is also important when stalking or lying up .... and with the knife pressed between my belt and my hip pad is very secure for moving fast. The pouches etc at the rear cover the sheath and more or less it goes un-noticed when on my webbing.

Here is a FSH carried like this but the pouches are not added to the belt ....

100_0453.jpg

The Basic 9 is the same overall length as a FSH as it is shorter on the handle and works better because it is lighter and the Res C handle gives off no glare.

To carry the BWM LE or the NMFBM I have to strap them to my Molle Vest under my left arm .... they are too long to carry like this .... and if worn vertically on my belt flap and bang around when running or tabbing. Noisy and a PITA .... but strapped to the Molle Vest they are fine.

The only thing is that I don't like using a Molle Vest with a Ghillie Suit .... you have too high a profile when crawling .... so actually the Basic 9 will probably remain one of the most used of my Busses. The Basic 11 is more likely to go on my Bergan or Vest as a back up or a knife for larger tasks.
