BWM LE #'s?

The Basic 9 will stay as my belt kit knife as I can carry it on a rear slanting carry without the handle or blade protruding either side of my back which if it happens means I catch the knife when running or using my arms and also interferes if adopting a sitting position when shooting. This carry option enables me to be able to draw the knife easily when lying prone ... which is also important when stalking or lying up .... and with the knife pressed between my belt and my hip pad is very secure for moving fast...

.... so actually the Basic 9 will probably remain one of the most used of my Busses.

Now THAT's some specialized application! Thanks, Peter--glad my particular scope of intended use does not include running and shooting in close juxtaposition. :D

I finally ordered one today, going to make the switch from my CG to the LE for a more SHBM-like experience for my one and only user BM.

Great decision .... It will be good to see some more users .... they really are a comfortable knife .... you won't regret it at all

There is a bit more there .... probably the difference between your SHBM with a flat grind at .25 on the spine and the BWM LE at .22 on the spine but with a sabre grind .... compared to your CF BWM ....

The weights I expect would be very similar for the first two and they are heavier than the .187 flat grind models enabling a bit more chopping performance. Do you have a BWM LE ? I expect so ... given your extensive collection ... if not you ought to get one before they go .... superb "users"

I actually find the BWM LE easier to use than my FBM Satin Flat Grind ( like a LE but a combat over run ) .... but that might be the more comfortable grips .... but it chops at the same pace .... virtually nothing in it .... so your favourite clip point FBM flat grind variant compared to your CF BWM should give an idea of the difference .... if the clip point mic's at .25 to .27. Maybe there is a tad more performance in my FBM flat grind but it all goes on edge and comfort once you get into a large chopping session .... and I spent a lot of time on the BWM LE's edge and grips to get the knife comfortable and the edge geometry right.

I really rate mine and if I want something that works quicker I tend to go straight to the NMFBM ... which from my pic's above is similar in comfort and "feel" but simply has more weight in the swing. As my pic's show I tend to use the Basic9, then the BWM LE and then the NMFBM. The Basic 11 I expect could slide in either below or above the BWM LE .... we will see :D

So... after reading your post, and fondling the BWM LE & SHBM (WASP) again, I remembered why I decided not to use the BWM LE. :o They are so close, I decided to stick with the SHBM. :p

But I did finally pick up a scale and it has confirmed for me, what I've speculated about the weights of my BMs and why I like that recurve proto FBM so much. I made up a little chart on the specs of a few in my line up...

I always thought the FBM Proto felt lighter than a CG FBM, but thought it was just a balance thing as the FBM Proto is .310" thick and the CG is .25". But... all the changes in blade shape really did wonders to lighten that fatty up! Roughly the same OAL as an SHBM, slightly less blade length, but made from a nice thick piece of INFI.

She really is a sweet blade!

Wow ... the FBM re-curve proto's weight is VERY suprising when it mic's at .31 .... NOW that would be a nice weight for a "user" .... you don't see many of those now .... but I remember when Jaxx was selling a couple and I nearly went for one .... it had green G10 smooth grips and I was sorely tempted .... but as they say ... "no regrets" .... ( why do we say that when it is SO untrue ... :D:D )

Surprised the heck outta me too! I couldn't believe it when I put it on the scale. I really did think it was just the balance difference between it and the CG.

Oh... and don't you worry... she's a user. ;)

:D :D

Maybe I should do a pass-a-round with her.

Send both to you first... Asym SHBM & this one... You could ship the SHBM back to me... and the recurve on to the next in line

.

Wow ... ( I keep using that word ? ) .... now that would be a VERY special "user" oppertunity .... and VERY generous :thumbup:

I was thinking of asking Garth or Jerry if they would do a BWM LE with an ASM grind for me before they are taken off the store .... anyone else who might be interested in a last limited run of these with ASM edges ?

I have always thought your WASP would be an ideal "one" knife .... and I figured the BWM LE done with an ASM edge would be as close as I could get given what I can afford .... unless ofcourse I were to sell a fair number of my other Busse's ..... which I don't mind doing .... as I basically have found my favourites but as I have often said .... with many of them "they are all good" and very hard to seperate ....

Just spent most of today working on the edges of knives for a chop off tomorrow with the Basic 11 ASM .... one of the problems of having too many knives is that you lose a lot of time working on the edges .... cutting down the numbers would certainly free up a lot of chopping time ....:D
