BWM or FBM ? Which would you choose?

I think the FBM is probably the best looking Mistress ever. Especially the handle slabs are really cool. BUT, I believe that it is just too heavy to be practcal. If you just want to play around smashing things or occasionally chop firewood it would be fine. If you really want to work with your knife, such as do a LOT of chopping or take it on a hike or camping/hunting - go with the Bushwacker which is still a very heavy knife.

Get a B11 if you want a user. Or a junglas is a great option, it has all the ability of the BWM at 1/3 the cost. Of course it wont hold an edge like INFI will but its a great blade and has worked really well for me.

BWM-LE @ .220" I think this is the ultimate of Jerry's creations on the Battle Mistress line of blades. It has the most comfortable grip, good blade length, blade design and thickness for strength and the weight is idea for swinging and carrying for extended periods of time!!! IMHO...

Russ hit this one on the head!!
I have found the BWMLE at .22" to be the sweetest spot in the Busse line up.
Besides, the BWM in any flavor would be my preference. I love the CF and CG finishes too, but
couldn't bring myself to put my LE aside. I've since sold my other choppers.

I prefer a knife that is a jack of all trades rather than a master on one.

AND... the Skunk has spoken
BWM would be my choice!.

You have to tailor the knife to the use ... but you would need some intense use to have the FBM eclipse the BWM as the best choice ... the lighter BWM is likely the best choice for most. But the FBM is the better chopper ...

Match the horse to the course! If you do more trail clearing where a lighter and faster blade is required, the BWM is definitely the better option. If you plan on preparing firewood, clearing trees, or just plain destroying something...a saber ground FBM would be better. Try clearing trails with a FFBM and you will quickly learn from your mistake!

But boy, would you get a great work-out!!

If I had to pic one of the two, I would probably choose the BWM hands down.

The FBM (in any iteration) is a very Bad blade, but the BWM is going to be all around more versatile. Won't out chop the FBM design, but will do a lot of things great.

I had a FBMLE (still miss it!!!!!!) with a hand shaped handle and a top, non sharp swedge added. It was a mean nasty blade. With the full height grind, and a wicked convex polished edge it could chop!

Since I I have a heavy and light chopper (KZII and B11) I have both extremes covered!

Like Russ said the BWMLE is a nice one and i think Russ would know he's had a lot of different Busse's to compare them too. The problem is finding one it seems like you don't see them come up for sale very often. Which should tell you something. Good luck on your hunt.

I worked the better part of a a whole day chopping on a log with my CGFBM. I was making a totem (sculpture). At the end of the day, do you know what I got? Bursitis! That's why I prefer a BWM.

Alex, I'm sure you weren't laughing, but that was funny:D

Get the FBM first then the BWM,,FBM are climbing in price quicker than the BWM:eek:,because the deal is once you put a busse in your hand AND use it your going to buy the other one anyway,,and thats just the beginning,, its a FACT,its just the way it is!!! So which every one you buy "First" i guarantee your love it and could build a nice little cabin in the mountains if you wanted to:thumbup:
