Hi...

Spydero 2008 catalog is already here and i did the mistake to download and open it...and i'm hooked.

A Byrd with plain and serrated blade... two in one, liner lock! :-))) I'm in love...

When??? What price??? Will it be available in Bulgaria (Europe)?? What is the hangle material? G-10 (YES!!!)? I'm starting to collect money from now:-)))

It will be available in Europe, I bet :-)

I will order one, too. Seems to be an interesting design. Held one during the Solingen mini show last year as well as the Catbyrd. Two knives (three?) that are worth a look for sure. To hell with its country of origin :D

I don't know...

I rather dislike liner locks. I know it's a Byrd, but my brother and I have had bad experiences with Chinese liner locks.

Well you are supposing that "Chinese liner locks" means that all liner locks from China are bad. That would be an error most likely. Spyderco doesn't work with the lowest bidder, they work with the bidder who can maintain their quality requirements. Even if the maker tried to dump quality mid stream; there is still Spyderco quality inspections to pass. Spyderco is pretty committed to safety...oh and they know how to make a quality liner lock too. :)

I imagine that there will be a world of difference between the Wings and the 2 dollar "gun show specials" that people get suckered into buying because they are cheap skinflints. :D

Byrd line may be manufactured in China, but there is quality control and the Spyderco "know how".

Place of manufacture is dependant on 2 main factors. Tese are quality and cost. Or in other words: how much are you willing to pay for the quality you pursue. You think, calculate and choose the best for the case:-)

I have quite a lot cheap chinese knives. Byrd line is totally different (materials, fit, finish).

How are the ergos? Does the other blade get in the way much? I'm going to buy one anyway, but I'm curious. it seems like that's the trickiest part of designing a two-bladed knife with opening holes and their associated humps.

Very true Gordon,

We have two "Wings" in the works, the dual Walker linerlock model and a dual bladed slip-joint. Both were very challenging for the reasons you mentioned..

There is also a Dyad in the works.

Please tell me the dyad will be a full size 2.5-3.5" one. I have been lusting after the original ever since i saw it for the first time.

Any better photos of the Byrd available? The photo in the PDF catalog is not that sharp and there is only the single shot.

Don't know how far the proto was evolved and what the final one will look like, so I will limit my comment to that it was obviously not on the slim side , but still a fine piece which could be handled easily and the blades didnt get in the way too much when opening one of them.

I think that the Dyad heritage helped a lot to design this piece in a well thought out way..

I like the fact that it will come with a pouch, btw :D

will the slipjoint Wings differ from the linerlock in any other ways? size, scale material, clip, etc?
