Has anyone tried out the Byrd knife that resembles the old Spyderco Dyad. I had an original Dyad and am still begging for a chance at another one.

It was incredible, one blade to beat, one razor sharp. Please make it again!!!

I saw one of the Byrds that looked a lot like it today, but really cheap, like <40$. I think I will try it regardless, but wanted to know if anyone had some experience with it.

Thanks,
Randy

I think you would be pleasantly surprised by the quality of the byrd line of knives. I have a few and their fit and finish as well as utility is well worth the money.

why the :thumbdn: ???

it looks like you're being negative about a knife you've never used.

I think you would be happy with the Bryd Wings. It isn't as nice as a Dyad but like others have said, it's hard to beat for the $$.

I have a G-10 Meadowlark. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Byrd again. Really, their fit and finish is very surprising. I gave a few as gifts over the Christmas season, and for once I didn't feel bad about skimping on price when giving a knife as a gift!

Like Sal said the price of a Chinese made Byrd is a lot lower because of the labor cost.
A woman at my office gave me a little 3 blade Chinese made knife for Xmas (that I never would have bought myself) and I was mildly surprised that it's fit and finish was as good as the USA made ones, that sell for a lot more.
It's OK to use and I don't mind using a cheaper knife for utility.

Thanks guys!

As for the thumb down, 10 into a 12 pack it looked like a question mark last night.

I have the Byrd Wings, excellent knife. A little big for EDC unless you dig wearing a sheath. I bought it for sailing, when I'm not sailing, I sometimes throw it in the bag as a backup.

I'm not a huge fan, since the ergonomics are very poor for my (very small) hands. The unopened blade just digs into my fingers too much. Otherwise it's a phenomenal knife.

I have on I like it but its a little bulky for my taste. I carry it every once in a while and after a few minutes I don't really notice the bulk.

I like mine. It takes a really nice edge. It's well made. If I'm wearing jeans then it's fine in pocket, but you do notice the bulk and weight with lighter clothing. It comes with a sheath, which was smart. My hands are on the small side of average and I find the handle fairly comfortable. I do prefer larger handles on my knives in general. It's never going to be as comfortable as a single blade design would be, though. For the price, it's just a screamling good deal.

I had one for a knifeforums passaround. It's a really good knife for the price, very well made, the liner locks seemed very secure. I cut some really stiff 1/2" and 1" irrigation tubing a bunch of times and the blade stayed nice and sharp. The G-10 has a good amount of grip as well. I think the only improvement it needs is a little sturdier belt sheath. Like some people said it's a little bulky, but that is the trade off for the greater utility.

I would love it if they put out the same design in H1 - I think it could be the ultimate tool box/utility knife.

Any opinions on the smaller, slipjoint version? Seems like it would be more pocket-friendly.

I'm looking forward to seeing that one, but as far as I know it has not been released yet.

The Wings has been very serviceable for me---although it is bulky, but that is inherent in a two-bladed design such as this. I had problems with one of the liner locks, but it adjusted itself quickly and is locking up solidly now.

The blade grinds were even and well done, and it came razor sharp from New Graham. The belt sheath was also executed well, and I like the 4-way adjustable pocket clip. It's a great knife deal for not a lot of money.

Thanks for all the comments you guys!!!

I have been a Spyderco pocket knife fan for years, ever since I owned my first Delica and have lost dozens of them, unfortunately!!

The Dyad, which all of you have heard me rave about, and a Kiwi that I kept for more formal situations hold the distinction of being the only knives that were ever stolen from me.

I loved the Dyad the most and ended up with it by accident. A friend of mine called me to say that he and his girl were going to the Smokey Mountains for the weekend and he wondered if I wanted him to bring me anything back. I replied, that I couldn't think of anything, but that they should enjoy their vacation. Then he said, "I'm going to that knife store (SMKW)."

I had bean looking at the dyads online, and wanting one real bad, so I told him to pick pick me up one of the Spyderco knives with 2 blades. I'm thinking $59. When they got back, he called and said, "I got your knife."

"Thanks man, how much do I owe you?"

He said, "They had a big one and a little one, and I knew you wouldn't want the little one, so I bought you the big one and it was $120."

Lord, times were tight and my wife at the time was not happy about the $120 for a pocket knife, but God bless Curt and his judgement!! best knife I ever owned!! It was 10 times more solid, sharp, and dependable than the wife, who I passed onto someone else, along withe the hard times that accompanied her, but I sure miss that knife.

Thanks again,
Randy
