Byrd knives?

+1

I have toyed with the idea of getting a Delica, but I just know w/o the finger choil I will not like it as much as my ML2. :)

Correct. Even BC agreed with me on the feel. BTW, if you can get a CalyJr, you won't need a Delica. ;)

I kind of want to get a Byrd version of the military or PM2 or Endura or something to use as a beater/user so I don't have to mess up my good Spydies....
But if I get a Byrd with inferior steel, that's probably far from my ZDP-189 Endura.

The Byrd knife that is closest to an Endura is the Cara Cara 2. The blade profiles are VERY similar. I didn't have a FFG Endura handy, but you can still see the similarities:

I almost like the Cara Cara 2 better. The ricasso extends into the handle to form a choil, which the Endura doesn't have. The Cara Cara 2 has g-10 scales, which I much prefer to FRN. And lastly, I like the comet hole better than the Spydie hole.
Honestly, if it weren't for the better steels and the Spyderco name on the Endura, I'd rather have the Cara Cara 2. Maybe I'll just buy one and I can pry with it and stab stuff without cringing and not care at all if it gets destroyed.

Make sure that you order the G-10 version. They come in both FRN and G-10. The FRN is about $10 more I believe, but I'm not a huge FRN fan so that's what I picked up. I like the grip that the finger choil gives you on the Cara Cara better than the grip on the Endura as well. I've always liked the directly opposed finger and thumb grip.

I think the Cara Cara is a better design all around than the Endura. If they made a better steel version even BD-1 it would be all win.

I bought Delica's for my kids Christmas 2011 ( 5 of them, 4 green and 1 blue ), they love them. While I was at the knife shop buying them I noticed the Byrd Meadowlark. I bought two of the first version with G10 and gave one to my son inlaw, and kept one for myself. Its a well built knife and I love the finger choil. Their not VG10, but the 8cr13mov seems to hold an edge well enough for any of my EDC tasks. Cutting cardboard, zip ties ect.

They'll both serve you well. The D'fly uses better materials and cost more. If price is an issue, I would suggest the Robin. Good and better, no bad.

Said better than I could. I have several thrifty friends who do not like liner locks who have been using Cara Caras since they first came out. They are older and still remmeber the price of original Enduras and didn't want to pay more for current Enduras. They have been happy.
