Ok,

I am a knife snob. When someone brings me a Fury or CS, my first response is one of disgust.

I pretty much KNEW that would be my response to the Byrd series. I just KNEW that I would turn my nose up at them and toss them aside for my more expensive Kershaw, Spydercos, Custom, blah, blah.

Well, I was WRONG! I just got a Byrd Meadowlark today and I must say I am impressed. the F&F is fantastic, no blade wobble, the lock is strong, and the blade is sharp.

The first think I did was lock it open and start banging it on the edge of my cat tree. that baby didn't budge an inch. Just a few days earlier, I had a fairly expensive folder fold like a wet rag doll doing the same thing.

this version is the stainless handled one. it's STOUT. No signs of weakness, no cheap feeling to it at all.

Anyway, i suppose my paradigm is busted now. I must eat a slice of humble pie.

It's entirely possible I won't spend more than 40.00 from now on for a GOOD folder. Yikes, I can't believe i just wrote that....

hey bdws1975, congrats on the Meadowlark.....if you like that knife you'll love the Tenacious for under $35 street prices

yeah, I am in the passaround for the tenacious. I'll let you know when I get it.

I was looking at getting the G-10 Delica, but then started looking at the Meadowlark for about 1/4th the price. I like my FRN Delica, but don't know if I can justify the price for the G-10 when the G-10 Meadowlark is so cheap. How do you like the steel on the Meadowlark?

I just got my Meadowlark a couple days ago, goes well with the Byrd Crow that I picked up last week. I too was VERY impressed with the Byrd series. Simply amazing knives for the price. Pick up a Byrd knife and it's REALLY hard to justify spending more money for a knife.

And maybe it's just me but the 2 Byrd knives that I received are by FAR the sharpest knives I've ever seen, right out of the box. Way way WAY sharper than my CRKTs, Kershaws, and Spydercos.

I can agree with Byrd knives being sharp out of the box. My Meadowlark cut me quite good a few weeks ago. I don't have more expensive knives to compare it to, but I've really enjoyed it so far.

I have a good share of knives, many, much more expensive than the Meadowlark.

Yet, for some reason, a ghetto-waved G10 Meadowlark (Drawn RGEO) is what I have been carying as an EDC for the last several months.

I'm expecting a P'kal shortly arriving to give it a run for it's money, but doubt I'll stop carying it.

Somehow, the knife just fits just right. Something beyond materials and geometry when something works as well as this guy does.

And, something that very few knives, regardless of price, have done for me.

Even amoungst other Byrds and Spydercos, I think of the G10 Meadowlark as a real sleeper.

The G10 Meadowlark is my main reason to collect more Byrdies...

I EDC-ed it several months - the birdye worth the $$$. :)

I like the Byrds as well, but I don't think it will preclude from spending more than $40 ever again. Just you wait, you'll see something eventually and think "gotta have that"

The first think I did was lock it open and start banging it on the edge of my cat tree. that baby didn't budge an inch.

I'll be the first to acknowledge my lack of expertise in trees beyond the basic common ones, so you can't imagine what I pictured when I read "cat tree". No idea what one is.
BTW what didn't budge? The cat or the knife?

Rik

LOL!!! A cat tree is a wood and carpet structure that are about 5 feet tall. The cats hang out on it and scratch on it.

The knife didn't fold at all, even when whacking the spine against the edge of one of the levels on the cat 'tree'.

:)
