What do you guys think?? Should spyderco make an affordable para 2
I think it would be a great idea to have an affordable para 2 and i would gladly buy 2.
The price.. around $30 $35..
Comment down below on your thoughts.

If it were to have the compression lock I would think just that alone would keep it out of your price range.

Im not a person to buy cheaper knives. i have lots of high end knives but i wouldn't mind having a affordable version of the para 2.. because i love my all black one and would like a super beater:)

It would be great to get a para2 comparable knife for 35$ but I doubt you can... the g10, steel and made in good ole 'merrica would be prohibitive...

I honestly hate the Byrd deployment hole. I feel it would really detract from the aesthetics of the knife. But I guess if it were a beater, who cares howit looks as long as it performs lol

I think it could be done.. i mean you can buy china made clones of benchmades for 12$ with axis locks. So compression lock could be done if they did it like the rest of the byrd line and made it in china.

I personally would never buy it, and I feel that $100 is affordable for the PM2. I'd easily pay $170 if they were normally that much; it's worth every penny. If you want something affordable, get the Tenacious.

It was just a thought. I dont typically buy cheap knives.

Navy's K607 uses a knockoff compression lock and is made with equivalent quality to the Byrd knives I've used and seen. This tells me that a Chinese Byrd compression lock knife could be made which would contradict your statement.

I totally agree. It is very ugly. As to making a Byrd Para 2, I think it would ruin the design. Cheap G10, 8CR13MOV, Byrd Hole, the whole thing about Para 2 is its quality and how the design is executed perfectly. If you wanted to have the quality and how nice the Para 2 is you would have to keep the higher price tag. I don't think a compression lock knife could be done for a little price tag.

They are done for $12 but look at the quality of the knife. Maybe it could be done but the quality would probably suck.

I brought it up before too.....think it is an intentional price point thing.

Would be nice to see a beefy Compression Lock, Military type nested liner, etc. in the $40-70 range as a working man's beater.

The Paramilitary 2 is just overpriced for the materials used. If you add up the price of materials it's under $30 or so, but they like to charge $100+ for it. I think the possibility of a cheap PM2 being produced is slim to none, I just cannot see it happening.

I'd pay $100 for a slicing knife, but not for one which would be used for, say, EDC while building a home. I see no reason that snobbery should keep a lock design out of a particular price bracket.

The compression lock is proven to be able to be made at Byrd/Tenacious-like quality levels for a similar price by the Navy K607.

Your snobbery is only that, and has no basis in the reality of what can be manufactured inexpensively and at sufficient quality.

I would love a Byrd compression lock - be it a Yojimbo or Para 2 clone. I imagine, though, that they have reasons for not having done that already. It would basically be a money fountain for 'em.

Or instead of bryd copying the para like my first idea they can just come up with their own idea and just have a compression lock knife. Who here would want a compression lock bryd that's a new idea and shape?

Why would be it necessary if a Tenacious with Spyderco quality is available for 35$?

The point of Para 2 is the overall package, steel, design, country of origin. I can't see the manufacturer logic in having a byrd para.

Navy has poor QC on their steel. Checkout Ruslan Kiyasov test on YT. A Tenacious beaten up both Navy and Enlan (though Enlan fared better).

I heard that video games cost less than $3 in materials. Yet they're being sold for 20 times the material cost. Development and machining costs are costs too, not to mention the idea itself can cost some money. How many knives are there with compression locks? (I think Spyderco patented it)

There are a few.. all spydercos tho lol.

If this idea did happen wouldnt it have to be called the para para 2?
