Byrd Robin

Hi Sqeezymo,

Sorry for your disappointment in the Starling. We did drop that model. The maker was not able to meet our quality requirements.

There is a lower priced byrd "Finch" model that has been well received, but I will add that, IMO, the Ladybug is quite difficult to beat. It's been continually refined for some time.

Thanks Sal, I'm glad to hear I am not the only one. I saw the Finch but liked the design on the starling better. Honestly, I am quite pleased with the Robin and Ladybug (and my Native!) and that more than makes up for the loss. Keep up the good work, it's a good thing it was discontinued!

outstanding for only $16

Hey Squeezymo. As long as it's not against forum rules could you tell me where you got a Robin for $16? Is it the G-10 one? I can't find those under $20.

It's not the G-10 it's the stainless steel one, but you can get it on Wal-Mart.com. If you have a wal-mart around you you can order it on "site to store" with free shipping which is why mine was so cheap. They also have the Byrd Cara-cara in G-10 and a bunch of other byrds, most of which are serrated though...

If this is against forum rules I'm sorry. I don't think it's deal spotting because it's not a limited time deal...

I like the S.S. handle Byrd knives. They just feel more substantial or something.Im able to get the blades lazer sharp with little effort.I think they are the best overall buy in the knife world right now.

Just got my Robin! Took so long since I was also picking a SAK and wanted to combine the orders. Haven't had much time with it but so far I really like it. It's my first lockback and I am having no trouble closing it one handed at all. I was expecting a bit of a learning curve. Feels great in my hand too. The only complaint would be that it's a bit dull. Does anyone know the grind angle?

Just go with a 25 degree angle. It's what all my knives end up being profiled to and it works quite well.
