byrd steel - good?

I recently misplaced my Spyderco Ladybug; tragedy aside, I got myself a Byrd Starling to replace it. I imagine there's certainly a lapse in quality there, but the black blade struck my fancy a little more and it let me save some beer money.
I'm still wondering, though, about the 8Cr13MoV steel comprising the blade. A few of the things I've read suggests it rivals AUS8, but I'm not without my skepticism. After all, it's a penny knife compared to most of the blades I've owned, especially my usual EDC, a Sebenza.
Does anybody have any applicable knowledge or experience on the matter?
Has anybody used byrd knives enough to swear by them?
And help is much appreciated. Thanks :)

I am a Byrd Junkie. Now, let me preface by saying I am not a steel snob, but I think the Byrd steel is great. It re-sharpens easy, it takes an extremely fine and sharp edge, and edge retention is very decent. The only steel I really like better is VG-10, to be completely honest.

8Cr13MoV has anout .8% carbon. performance comparable to AUS-8

The new Ladybugs have VG-10 blades. 20% more carbon than 8Cr13MoV.

AUS 8 is a good steel

8Cr13MoV is also a good steel (It just needs a shorter name) I prefer to call it alphabet steel.

There are steels that I prefer but they come with a pricetag.

The Byrd #$*@&^% steel is fine, :)
Sharpens easy, edge lasts awhile, I carry a Cara Cara and love the thing.

Want to get a few rescue CC's or Meadowlarks, for boat duty.

The Byrd steel beats AUS-8 that I have used in edge holding and taking a fine edge because it burrs less. It is run harder than typical AUS 8, so in general it will outperform AUS 8 even though the compositions are almost identical.

OUTPERFORMS aus8? That's astounding. Can't wait to but this little guy through some abuse. (That's the nice thing about a $10 knife; no matter what you do to it, you don't feel bad.)
Thanks for all your help, everybody.

the byrd steel is legit. i used me byrd robin everyday at work for opening boxes and other tasks like that, and i only touched it up once in the span of about 1 year! it would have been fine without it too. they are good knives. the g10 byrd robin is one of the best byrds inmop.
