Hello guy

What do you think about Byrd product in general ? a bit of  spyderco quality or not ?

Thank's in advance

Take care

A

They are trying hard and they are making progres.
When the first Byrds came out I wasn't impressed.
But now I think it are decent working knives, smooth action, good locks.
The quality of the grinds and the thickness of the edges tells the tale for the Spyderco's, those are more refined.
The Byrds perform good though.
Steel is pretty good too.

Welcome to the forum!

No, the Byrds are not Spyderco quality. They are not supposed to be. They are great for their price point, and they are good quality knives made from good materials, but they do not use the top-of-the-line materials found in the main Spyderco line. They are exactly what they are supposed to be - good working knives at an affordable price. They are also a great way to get sucked into Spyder Fever ;)

You have been warned! :D

...good working knives at an affordable price...

And that’s exactly what they are!! Good knifes for a good price price. But they are not like Spyderco’s

If you have a Byrd Meadowlark in your left hand and a Spyderco Delica 4 in your right, you really can see and feel the quality difference. The Meadowlark is a good knife but the Delica is on every aspect just al little better...and all those little differences make up a big difference at the end quality.

btw: i EDC the Meadowlark and my precious Delica stays home;)

the byrd robin in g10 has become my workhorse knife. i use it more than any other knife i own and its cost me the least. the byrds are good, especially the ones with g10 handles.

the g10 byrd robin is one of my all time fav knives.

I don't know, the G10 Robin I have has amazing F&F. Better then most knives out there.

I haven't taken it apart, so I don't know about the finish of the liners and such.

You might notice I didn't say anything about the fit and finish. ;) I only own one Byrd, a stainless PE Flight, on which the fit and finish are very good, but that is too small a sample to speak for the whole line. I was merely pointing out that they don't use the premium materials that are so common in the main Spyderco line that we tend to take them for granted.

I agree with 3mptin3ss that the G10 byrds are the best in the line, and I have an example of SS, FRN and G10 byrd handles.

The best Byrd I know is the G10 Cara Cara. You can't go wrong with one of them. Amazing for the price and if you don't care about the tiny little f&f flaws that don't affect function, you will be just blown away by it.

The serrations on mine aren't as aggressive as the "original" SpyderEdges, though. So, maybe you should go for a PE. They feature the same "scary" sharpness as the original Spydercos have.

Did I mention i love my Cara Cara?

take care

Dennis

My G-10 Cara Cara is one of the toughest knives I own. It's definately not a light weight but it's a great beater. get one!

Opps. :o I kinda glossed over your post. Didn't get the exact meaning. I can't really argue about the whole premium materials thing.

I only own a few Byrds, 3, to be exact. I've given 4 as gifts, though, and all were very nice.

Thank's for your advice Guy.:)

You confirm my initial choice: G10 cara cara.

An good adress with low prices ?

I precise I'm French..Sorry for my poor English

if you're planning to buy more than one byrd, knifeworks.com ships to France, but the shipping is quite expensive, near $30.
american prices are way cheaper though, so if you're buying, let's say, $70 of knives it begins to be more interesting to buy at knifeworks.

i wish spyderco would make a fully serrated version of the g10 byrd robin. that would put even more cutting power in that little knife.
