cool, is that a spring or something on the side?

That is a file, the file protudes through the wrench and slips into a hole to keep the wrench closed.
The spring puts pressure on the file so it pushes into the hole.

Colog,
Do you have one?
If so, tell us about it. It looks really cool.
How do the bits work. What do they fit into?

Really cool. That is definitely one of the most innovative multi-tools I have seen in a long time.

That is awesome I have wanted a spyder tool like that for years but never saw one and now it is a byrd so I will be able to afford it. Good by Gerber.

Yeah, I still have mine. Its in very good shape too. Mine is not a byrd, but an older spyderco, with a 440c blade. The blade is still razor sharp. The bits fit into philips head and flat head screws, and the file also has a philips and flat head on the ends for smaller screws. Its definitly up there on the cool factor, but i'm not much of a multi tool guy so mine sees very little action.

Aughhh...I've waited years for the new spyderench and it's made in china...aughhhhh....well, maybe in a few years I'll see one from the actual spyderco branch.

We have SpydeREnches that are coming in from Taiwan. Production is limited though.

The byrdRenches are coming in from China. Higher production capacity, but still lower than we think the market will want.

Basically the same tool. The Spyderco model has a diamond file, the byrd model uses a metal file. AUS8 on the Spyder, 8Cr13MoV on the byrd.

The Taiwan version is a little more $.

All in all, a very difficult product to produce...but very useful.

We've been working on getting Renches to the market for 10 years. Mebbe we get lucky this time.

AUS 8? dang, I was hoping for VG10, or something like it.....

But, most people that will buy the Byrd/Spyder renches also carry anouther knife, so I guess its ok.

Hi Darth. None of our steels would be considered "bad".

VG-10 is not available in Taiwan or China. We've shipped VG-10 to Taiwan, but it had to come to America first, and ship back. costly and a hassle.

In my humble opinion, the true genius of this tool is that it splits into 2 tools! You can secure a nut using the crescent wrench with one hand, while turning the screw using the screw driver in your other hand.

Try that with your other multi tools!!!

Plus, it is still a real one handed knife.
Still nothing out there in the same league as this.

Wow, just WOW ! ! !

Never saw this one coming Sal :D

Gotta say I'm very happy about it, Love live the Byrd line ! ! !

I love the Byrd line as well. I have always wanted a spyderwrench and I hope I can find one. Aus 8 and the steel Byrd uses is pretty good especially for the cost. I was shocked at how good my crossbill was and now Byrd knives are the benchmark for inexpensive knives. I want it to be cheap enough to stick in the tool bag of my motorbike.

The file on the SpydeRench version is coated with diamonds (600 mesh) except for the two ends. One is a flat driver and the other is a point, used to detent the tool closed.

The SpydeRench project took 3 years to delivery. the byrdrench took 2 years. Both were finished about the same time. Now the question will be consistent delivery.

We learned making the Rench in the USA that it is far more complicated to mfr that might appear.
