I 'm thinking about purchasing a high end folder and have narrowed it down to the CR Sebenza or the Strider folder. Which would you all suggest?

They're like apples and oranges, one is nothing like the other - what are you planning to use it for?

niether-get a custom-
have a strider pt,wouldnt call it good fit and finish-but works aok

had a sebenza-dam fine piece fit and finish are super-

but for a few dollars more my hinderer 3'' xm18 if much much nicer and a custom-well worth the extra 60 bucks

or save some $$ and get a bradley alias, benchmade skirmish

take a lok around at some high end dealers and used -also check some makers who have a few stock items available like les voorhies

I personally very much like the Sebenza; it is a great knife!! The Small Sebenza makes for a perfect EDC, in my opinion.
But, like TorzJohnson said, they are 2 totally different knives.
But, for a bit more than a Sebbie, you CAN get a Custom.

If it's not too much trouble can someone explain the differences between the two? Also what's the attraction/advantage of a custom?
Thanks.

You might just want to take a look at both? Sometimes pics say more than thousands words. :D

Thanks.

First of, the very personal part of a custom made.

Second, depending on the makers ability, fit and finish. That does not mean, any custom is better made, but if you choose someone, who is well known for the extra better plus top A quality, you should get more for the same money.

If oversea is not the problem take a look at Jürgen Schanz folders.

a custom to me is beter because a man made it at his shop personally-guy put a little of himself in it-it almost has a history from the start-

sebenza has a bushing in the pivot, never took my strider apart so im not sure if it has one ,but i dont think it does-

fit and finish with a sebenza will be near perfect, strider its near --well it aint perfect and for the $$ and thats its biggest difference-as far as i can tell-

the g10 on mine(strider pt) looked like a 3 thumbed blind chinaman made it while hung over and fighting 6 or 8 monkeys at the same time while his wife was screaming in his good ear-

blade steel with bolth is s30v and bolth have
good heat treat

g10 on one side with the strider pt ,the small sebenza has ti on bolth sides-

Looks beautiful and functional and doesn't get involved in online whizzing matches. Show and go without the drama!

You CAN get a Mike Obenauf for around the price of a Sebbie. The 2 I own were sold for $325.00. I traded to get mine. The knife in my picture is a MIke Obenauf small model 2, frame lock; with clip point blade.

If you are set on one or the other, buy both and see which one feels the best for you. Whichever one you do not want, send back.Check out TNK for a great selection of both.Read as much as you can here to get an idea of what customs to look at.I bet you end up with more than one anyway!

TKC, Where can I view the Obenauf Knives at? You sparked my interest in yet another folder.

rosconey2, can you put me in touch with that highly skilled chinese craftsman you mention earlier?

I personally say Sebenza over all...a Strider is really a knife used when you go to hell and back...it is built with the purpose of doing many tasks that knives were and were not designed to do.

Personally I'd get a Sebbie first. Even over a custom. Customs are more prone to issues than a Sebenza and the Sebbies F/F is well above Striders IMHO. I'm not big into Sebbies anymore but I've never seen one with any problems which I HAVE seen with customs and Strider production models. At least you'll start out with a PERFECT knife if you go with a Sebbie out of the gate. Then you can pick up a Strider, I'd go with a recurve SMF personally, or custom later and see what the differences are.

i knew i needed a Sebenza after holding one

there are a couple places around here that sell them, there aren't any that sell Striders though

the only Strider i've held is an AR and it dwarfs my Large Sebenza, i can't imagine carrying one all the time, but i'd like to see what a PT or SmF is like

i don't think you can go wrong with a Sebenza, the customer service is pretty good as well

of course, it's not like it would be hard to get rid of a Strider if you didn't like it

Thanks for all the helpful information everybody, I've decided to go with a sebenza first, I'm sure I'll end up getting a Strider, Rick Hinderer, or costom at a later date; hell I'll probably own them all at some point. Now I just have to decide whether it will be a large or a small and a classic or regular. Although I'm pretty sure I like the classic design better.

Thanks again everyone.
