C123A batteries

You get the same good performance in the cold with AA lithiums, but those can be really pricey. Another upside to lithium primaries is long shelf life.

Day to day I mostly use AA lights with eneloops, but my favorite light and one I expect to make heavy use of in emergencies is a modded Surefire L1, with a stash of 123's. Some of the 'budget' are better than others, I have a small stash of Battery Junction Titanium cells, which are one of the more reputable budget 123's.

True, but as you mentioned, they are pricey. I think if you compare the cost of AA/AAA lithium cells to Surefires CR123 cells the CR123's are cheaper.

Oh yeah I totally agree. That's why my emergency light takes CR123's.

Just wanted people to know that the lithium AA option was out there. If you've got a AA light you like you don't have to buy something new just to get to use batteries with cold resistance and long shelf life.

Staples stocks C123 batteries. I've been real pleased with the ones I've bought from them. Fresh and long lasting, also easy to exchange if any problems.

Costco is actually stocking the lithium AAs now, if you are a member. I want to say the per cell price is around $1.50, which is comparable to a CR123. I like the super light weight, so I use them in my backup backpacking lights.

I use Panasonic, and Surefire (the ones that came with the lights). The Surefires are actually relabeled Panasonics, so there is no use in paying extra for the name.

--Don't buy Ebay batteries
--Don't buy Chinese made batteries
--DO buy any of the name brands: Surefire, Streamlight, Panasonic, RayOVac; they're all made in the same factory, and there's little difference between them in performance.

Hey Dano, can you tell us how you came by this info? If it's correct, that is VERY helpful info to me, as my EDC, nightstand, and backup McGizmos, as well as my pack E2D and kitchen Stinger are all CR123 lights. Guess it goes without saying that I need a large backup stash of these cells.

Panasonic has a lithium factory in Columbus, Ga. It's the only lithium cell manufacturing facility in the U.S. Duracell used to have its own (in Texas, I think), also, but it was closed when Duracell was purchased by P&G.

Panasonic does all the OEM cells, if the cells are Made in the USA.

Do they? Interesting. I'll drop SF an email because I was under the impression they did all those in house.
