I was fortunate enough to purchase a like new condition used older C36 Military plain edge G10 with a Black Pocket Clip. It is en-route as I write this...

I have searched and searched and can not determine when the plain edge S30V C36 started coming with a Black Pocket Clip and or when Spyderco stopped the Black Pocket Clips on this model, and started installing Satin Pocket clips on this model?

Please advise!

Thank you.

I don’t think anyone is going to be able to give you a definitive answer

Thanks for that info, so 2000-2001 they started the black clips,,,,,when did they go to the silver metal clips as now on the new military's?

The reason I am asking it because I bought this Milly without the box, in new unused condition and I am trying to determine hold old it is...

If it isn't super old, the blade will have a date stamp on it (not sure exactly when the dates started being added, but it's been 10+ years I think). That won't be exactly when it hit the shelf but within months.

Other more recent changes that would narrow it down are if the clip is curved towards the end of squared off (curved is newer), and if it has the more recent CQI changes of a press fit stop pin (no screws) and large lanyard hole.

Thank you so kindly Sal! Love your products much. It has no pin and squared off clip. Cheers all - should have it this Wed to join my many other Spyderco's

The size of the jimping over the Spyderhole could also help determine at least a range of years, IIRC. I've had several Millies over the years, including a very early one. The original models had large "dino-jimping" and it's gotten progressively finer with CQI changes since then.

Please all I have another small issue with this Military (my fourth one...)
-- each time I move the lock to the left to disengage the blade lock to close it - it squeaks as the lock slides off the back of the blade...
I have applied light oil. It still squeaks each time I move it to unlock.
I just applied white lithium grease - and it still squeaks....
I can simply move that lock repeatedly with all this lube on both points of metal and it squeaks each time....!?!?!
Please Sal or anyone - is there a remedy for this annoying characteristic?
>>Thanks all!

It may be that the squeak is coming from the detent ball riding in the locking liner. I've read about this with a few individual liner locks. I'm not sure where you applied the lube, but if it didn't get to the detent ball, it wouldn't affect the squeak.

Yes I did apply both the oil and lube to the detent ball - repeatedly.
The detent ball is not touching anything when the squeak occurs, it happens when the lock is pushed to the left to release and initiate closing of the blade, coming from the two metals rubbing....which is amazing considering the lubrication's applied.....is the knife/action just too new?
My other three different Millys never did this, nor did my two PM2's....
I tried blowing everything with a can or compressed air with a fine tube getting right in there....still squeaks....?
Otherwise knife is perfect in every way....guess I'll live with it...

Clean off the grease and oil from the lock face. Let it break in.

Lubricating the lock interface reduces friction which would lead me to believe you could have an unintended failure. Ide advise against it.
