Hey guys (and gals) I could use your help. I was looking at getting the Peter Herbst knife (I think the number is C53) but I can't find much about the knife anywhere. Comments would be greatly appreciated from anyone who has had any experience with this particular knife.

Thanks,
Travis

I think it's a great knife. Feels good in the hand, very visually appealing and the one I gave my son has the smoothest action I have EVER seen.

We plan to reintroduce the model again next year. Some design and mfg changes were necessary. My apologies for the disapointments.

These are some of the nicest knives Spyderco has produced. I still have a few left in stock from my original order. I have never understood why they aren't better sellers.

Hello!

I just received my plain edge Peter Herbst yesterday (number: 283). I must say that I'm very pleased with the knife. Looks great (much better than the images on internet), feels good and action is very smooth indeed.

But (I didn't think there would be any 'but's with this knife)... it was dull! It did shave the hair from my arm - but just barely, not the way it should have. Also the grind was not well done. The edge bevel was something like 30-31 degrees on the front side and about 22 on the back. This of course isn't any real problem. I reprofiled the edge with my DMT aligner... and now it shaves!

I can feel it catch some of the tougher free standing hair on my arm and almost cut them! (I need some Japanese water stones...

Even if it had been sharp out of the box I would have sharpened it anyways... so just a great knife. Definately one of the nicest Spydercos I've seen!

Sal, can you tell us what modifications?

I just wanted to add that I know one dealer who has at least one plain edge Peter Herbst... email me if you are interested. They are hard to find.

PS. Tommi, didn't notice my new shining clip today at lunch...

Hard to find? A couple of them are fairly easy to find on my shelf. Like Dennis Wrights, part of my original order. That might explain why Spyderco isn't ordering more right now.

Well James, you were the one I refered to above

. I also know many dealers who do not have them even though they list them. Maybe there are others out there gathering dust on some forgotten self.
So anyways, if anybody is interested in getting one of these, just email Dennis or James
