I spent last night and most of today at the Bush Bash above Visalia with my son and his girlfriend. When we got there, Ray, Sasha, Mike, Phil, and Ian were already there. There was a little patchy snow on the ground, so the first order of business was to get some firewood for the campfire:

Sasha had some chicken feet to cook over the fire:

In the morning, we started with some gourmet bagels with extra fancy toppings, supplied by Sasha. Let me tell you, Sasha sure knows how to eat!

Then we started the shooting:

Here is Sasha, wondering where that squirrel was hiding:

Then Christian arrived to join the fun:

And Christof arrived with his son; here he is teaching the next generation:

Then we went on a walk to find some fatwood, and it wasn't long before we found a cooperative ponderosa stump:

Ray then made a feather stick from some of the fatwood and lit it with his firesteel:

Christian showed us how to start a fire with flint and steel, and even I was able to light a fire this way. Now I'm going to have to get my own setup, it was fun.

The guys went back to work chopping more firewood:

And don't mess with Kandis, she is handy with guns:

And she found a new sport that she really enjoyed, and did very well at - tomahawk throwing:

Here she is posing with two of the many that she threw into the tree:

a great gathering of fine outdoor activities & participants. thanks for the great pics & story. i'm stuck in the city for maybe 3 more weeks & my chopping will only be brush of the back of garage. wish i had been there.

Looks like everyone had a good time. Too bad it is so far from Texas.

Is that a real Lugar? Never see anyone shoot one.

Interesting that Kandis shoots right handed and throws left handed.

This stump had no fatwood but there were plenty of termites. I think these guys were thinking about having them for lunch

Yep, 1940 production, complete with Waffenamts and the eagle holding the swastika in two places. All matching serial numbers, too, and it's incredible how many parts have the serial number. They switched to the P38 early in the war because the Luger took a lot more to make - an amazing amount of very high quality machining goes into one.

I didn't even notice that Kandis was throwing the tomahawk left handed until someone pointed it out. She is right handed for everything else. But she had it figured out, and did a lot better than most.

well got home a while ago took a shower to get rid of the smell of the camp fire smoke. need to down load the pics and post some too.. I realy had a great time. You guys were great i got my both my moras sharpend and let me tell you Phil can put an edge on a knife thats for sure. The biggest surprise i got was when i arrived at the camp site, We had lots of snow. Plenty of mud as well, sure didnt stop us from have lots of fun.. Temp droped to the high 20s. The good part was sitting by a fire in the evening listening to everyone talk. But the best part is the making of new friends. O.k time to make some dinner here.
