CA Glue

Just wanted to point out that they make a half dozen (or more) variations of the stuff. From gap filling to slow set and different viscosities. Clearly some of you realize this, but in case someone didn't. Japan woodworker carries a few products, micromark carries more I believe.

For sticking, they sell debonder, I also recommend insta-set. Believe it or not, smoke works pretty well for instantly setting CA, but the product made to do the job smells about 1000x better. Quite pleasant actually. A small bottle goes a long way too because it works very well.

As for application, I've read and written a hundred times about how to use it. Honestly though I end up making adjustments to my technique every time. It just reacts a little differently depending on material and environment. For my uses I look at it as a liquid plastic acrylic more than a glue. Works better for me when I think of it that way. It will easily impregnate porous materials and after sanding, will take a high shine.

We use several gallons of CA every year. Several years ago we switched to odorless CA. This is one of the best inventions ever! With odorless you can use CA literally for hours and never smell fumes or have your eyes burn.

Another advantage is it drys clear when sprayed with accelerant if it is a thin layer. Scott Slobodian uses odorless for his famous CA finish.

If you use CA do yourself a favor and try the odorless. You will not be sorry.

Chuck

BTW, I just gave away 5 gallons of stinky CA to a friend because I refuse to use it ever again.

I believe the link above is for odorless post-forming CA. That supplier has several variations at various prices.

Now thats interesting to me Chuck. Can you get the odorless in medium viscosity? Wanna sell it to me by the gallon???

We use odorless medium viscosity (100cps) which I feel is about perfect. It goes deep into holes & cracks but does not run like water.

We've stopped selling CA.

Not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but they'll tell you where (and what) to look for I'd reckon.

Looks like Fastenal (amongst others) can get it for you. Might be best to know exactly what you need when you walk in though. Last time I visited my local store they tried to sell me some weird stuff when I asked if they sold West Marine epoxy. They WERE able to sell me some really overpriced hardware though. :D
