these pics were taken yesetrday at big basin state park... this park is amazing.. it is the second largest state park in ca.... it's about 30 min. from my house.... my wife worked there for a few years actually... building trails...

there is some really huge old growth redwoods here... not to mention some really nice hiking and camping..... we have spent our past 2 thanksgivings here... it's a lot fun.... we rent a few campsites and have a feast like the days of old...... cooking over fire and using duthc ovens is the way to go...

sorry for the poor pics... i'm not a photographer....

NO WAYthey're not all my kids...:D that would be funny... 2 is enough for me..:o

i have the 2 long haired boys that are with me in the pic... all the rest of the kids are from our summer outdoor science camp.... H.O.W.L.

Mike, I don't think you'd have time to post on here if they were all yours! LOL. More great pics though and I like the Crawford, very cool.

Excellent pictures , I would love to make a trip out that away with my family to gaze at the redwoods, one day !!!

This last weekend I hiked in the Prairie Creek Redwoods - one of my favorite places. There is nothing like the Redwoods. We were camped there on 9/11. We heard people talking about planes crashing into buildings, etc. It seemed like another world.

Those are fantastic pics bro. Good to see your boys too. I saved that one to show the wife.

I love big basin, great place to hike. Thanks for the pics, looks like you guys had fun!
Now to find part one of this series.

Hey there Mike! I spent last week in the Sierras so I missed this thread. BB is truly one of God's best works. I read an article in this month's Sunset that stated the National Parks are seeing a significant drop in visitors. Many people want a virtual tour instead of a walking tour. The State has been putting in wifi at the parks to try to get people to camp there, with their laptop. Kind of a sad statement but times change.

In January 1974 it snowed pretty heavily and closed all the mountain roads and dropped power lines all over SC county. I had a contract with PG&E to help open the roads and clear power lines and after a few days we ended up in Big Basin Park. I cut up some BIG redwoods that had fallen over (to free power lines) and most of those are still laying where they fell. Thanks for jogging my memory.
