I just got back from a weeklong backcountry trip in the Sierras to find a Cabelas catalog waiting for me. To my surprise, they are now offering a line of Buck models with S30V blades, TiAlN coated. Vanguard, Alpha fixed and folding, 110, and Alpha PBS crosslock. Now how am I supposed to keep my budget under control?

Very interesting, isn't it, but I wonder why no 112? I'm starting to suspect someone at Buck really doesn't like the 112.

Look some more and you'll find Gerber Freeman fixed and folder in S30V also, made in the USA to boot. The folder has a great handle/blade shape and is getting hard to resist. I just wish I knew how well they make their liner locks.

Man, I just know one of those 110s will have to be on its way to me soon. Now if they only had a Big Sky in that combo...

At $59.99 with S30V this looks like one of the best deals around. I already own two 110s and just received an old 112 in the mail from my Dad on Friday and never use any of them any more as I've got the tactical one hand opener bug, but I'm having a hard time not ordering one of these. Takes a bit of snooping around to find them on Cabela's site, but they're there if you look hard enough.

Yeah, links would be cool. I can't find 'em. I loved the Vanguard when I was about 20, so an S30V version would be pretty cool!

Thank you very much. I ordered myself a Vanguard. It will be nice to compare the S30V with the BG42 Master Series model that I already have.

I always have a sentimental attachment to Buck knives. This piece of news has just perked up my interest. :)

"Don't care too much for the coated blades myself."

Y'know, I actually like the look of the coating. I like the offset dark/bright colors of the blade next to the brass bolster. Eye of the beholder, I s'pose. :)

Does anybody have any experience with this coating? How easy does it scratch? This sure looks like a winner to me... Buck 110, S30V, infrickincredible!

I might get one if they had satin finished blades, but I really can't say I like the black blade with the big yellow logo on it. Besides, I can always send in my 110 to get it changed to bg42.
