"Cabin fever" ridiculousness !

o
This thread is pure gold. I have done this so often! The one item that keeps floating in and around my cart is a tactical tomahawk—usually the Gerber Downrange Tomahawk.

Actually might be a good idea... For preppers, definitely a good idea... ;)
OOH RAH ! Heck yeah , everyone "needs" a breaching tool . Or as I prefer to call them : "emergency rescue devices " !:thumbsup::thumbsup:

That's a bad-ass weapon to re-establish your dominance when you run into that ferocious persistent raccoon in your back yard that refuses to leave. What other weapon practically screams "Valhalla I am coming"? You will certainly assert your dominion over your yard, of that I'm absolutely sure.

That Viking Axe is completely impractical for use inside!

Two words: Boar Spear
http://www.coldsteel.com/boar-spear.html

Far more friendly for wintertime, indoor jousting. I may (or may not) already own one...
Nice. Who DOESNT need one of those?

Man, with only $500-600 I could buy enough large Cold Steel weirdness to make my overly social cottage neighbours think I am completely batshit crazy. Might be an idea to get some peace and quiet. Spears, axes, etc. Cutting pop bottles and pig heads outside would also help.

I can relate with winters in MA....lots of down time and little daylight.
What was intent for the viking axe?....that you know you will eventually buy

Under the malign influence of cabin fever , just barely avoided acquiring this monstrously :
http://www.coldsteel.com/viking-axe.html , which would have a ludicrous blunder ! Couldn't hardly be more inappropriate for my situation / life-stage . Must have been my inner viking child and the winter blahs .

Anybody else with similar dark urges ? ;)

Way to walk back from the edge, lol. That was a close one, it is so easy to hit that "purchase" button.

Not necessarily so . Jack has either a fire axe or a common full size wood axe , a weapon of opportunity gleaned from the environment . Just a tool , morally neutral . Intent or madness comes from within .o_O

I was once "on my way" to be a homesteader in Alaska...many eons ago. My bud was going to get his 100 acres next to mine, so as to have some help and someone to talk to at times. Never made it, although we had the paperwork. The old boy found himself a local beauty and there went Alaska. Never had the where-with-all to go by myself.
I have managed to spend 18 days, on two different years, up there driving in a huge circle around Anchorage. My wife and I did that twice and fell in love with Alaska and halibut. But, we always made sure that we got out just as the first snows were showing on the neighboring mountains.
Having lived most of my life in Michigan, I could handle living in Anchorage in the winter, but not in Fairbanks.
Beautiful country...very large mosquitoes. Two growing seasons/year in the Matanuska Valley.
You walk down to the river's edge to take a look, and you might never come back again. I felt most comfortable hiking with a .500 Linebaugh on my hip... fine meds for mosquitoes, moose in the rut... and griz.

I was just driving around seeing all the pretty winter scenes that could be seen. Heavy snow laden pine trees every where make a very pretty scene to to seen when seeing such a scene.
But walking through and under such pretty snow puffy trees gets you a literal little blizzard landing all over you. That is a good cure for cabin fever reminding you why you are in the cabin and not getting hypothermiated.

I would love to go to Alaska, but the mosquitoes love me, so that's out... Anyway, back to on-topic discussion—here's my conclusion on this thread: the viking axe would be cool, but I'd rather have a breaching tool... Just saying...

What knives do you guys use on your Alaskan adventures?

Simply lovely weapons... I don't know about the whole 'dark urges' thing. In case of apocalypse, those tools could prove intimidating...

From left to right: Hanwei Tinker Longsword, Kingston Arms Crecy, and Hanwei Tinker Great Sword of War. They're not Albions (all three together cost less than a single Albion ), but they're good enough for the likes of me. :D

I think if you find stuff like this cool or interesting and you have the money, go for it. You only live once and you can look at the beastly axe or whatever takes your breath away for a long time to come. Maybe you might even use it.

It's kind of sad how long arms like these have really no use in our modern world. Swords are cool! Pole axes are cool!

I tossed some smaller items when I got married. My wife kept pointing at things and asking "why do we need a ball and chain flail?". There's no answer to that.

I still want a big sword.
