I forge welded a piece of 3/4" cable to day and wound up with a bar 1/4"X3/4"X15" in length. My question is how do I get a wider bar, should I cut and stack and weld it together again and go from there or is there a better way.
Thanks
Stan

That is what i would do Stan soak in vinegar overnight to get rid of any scale and cut it in three and weld it up then draw it out.

3/4" cable should have been able to be forged out to about 1 1/4" - 1 3/8" wide by 1/8 to 3/16 thick. Did you twist it? you should take it up to red, put it in a vice, then twist it which ever way it naturally runs. do this 2x you'll double the diameter doing this, then flux and weld. draw your billet out of it and it'll be knife sized.

Thanks guys,Jason I did twist it but did it at welding heat so it acually shrank in size. Got a good solid weld and a nice pattern so may just make some small knives out of it and will twist the next one at red.
