Hey guys. Time for another appropriate conversation.... I have not been able to sleep a wink! I can't decide now, which to make my new EDC!!!!! I love my Boss Street Proto, but now i got this new pretty CABS!!!! Now, is the the CABS better for EDC because of its slimmness, or is the heavier, thicker BS better knowing i can chop a brick in half with her? So, here lies my dilemma. (Im not kidding, i really can't decide and its making me nuts!!!) I know i can carry both, but i would like to keep one mint for now, and one my user. So, which one do YOU prefer? And why? Pros/Cons, etc...... Just throw out anything you can think of!
Dave

(oh, and what the heck is the Rc of the CABS edge???)

Only you know what your typical "every day" chores are. If they would best be accomplished with a thinner satin blade with a zero edge then use the CABS. If instead they're rougher tasks where a thicker edge is handy or heavy tip (ab)use is likely to occur, then use the proto. If you're looking for the "needs to meet any task" blade then use the proto. I think you can accomplish with more force what a thinner blade will do more easily, but you can't add mass to the thinner blade if the job calls for it.

Proto is heavier, thikcker and more robust tip.

Cabs is a much better slicer. Better for cutting veggies etc.
And no choil!

I have found I tend to be moving more toward thinner knives. My Fbmle and Ash1cg. .22 GW are all gone. The Bad, cabs, sarQ and B11 are all thinner. I would not call the KZ thin, but it is thinner than the FbMLE.

use em both just alternate days you ain't gona hurt them, anyway do you really want a safe queen? Use em and enjoy em both.... just my .02:D

As to hardness, I am pretty sure if they were harder than the standard 58 to 60 hardness, Busse would have made a point of letting us know.

I love the higher hardness on the bad.

Ok, do you guys think the thinner blade on the CABS can take the abuse of our thicker, tougher Busses, or is it all relative? I mean, I don't usually abuse my knives, but it's nice piece of mind knowing I can. What do you think?

I'm no where an expert in comparison to these members. EDCs should have a thinner blade than your bigger chopper blades. A thinner blade will allow you to slice and cut with more precision than a thicker blade. I can't see EDCs being used for very hard chores such as chopping or splitting wood. I don't see how an EDC blade can be damaged unless you plan to use it for prying.

IMO, the way I look at it is this way. The thickness of the blade should be proportionate to the length of the blade. .25" is fine on my NMFBM but on a GW it's crazy.

Yea I feel the same way. But, anyone feel like the cabs blade is too thin? I mean, do you think the cabs edge could take batonning? Like I said, I want to pick the "do it all" knife, but also be able to carry it everyday. Right now i am trying to decide if the original BS is too heavy and thick for EDC. Thanks for your ideas! Keep 'em coming!

I think for what a 4" blade is made for the CABS will do it all. Chopping through cinder blocks is not what I would do with a knife that size but for some it is. At .14" the CABS is still thicker than anything in my kitchen. I have an RC-4 (ESEE-4) that comes in at .135" and I don't hear anybody complain that it is too thin. But I am not a chubby chaser either so take my opinion for what's it's worth. :)

I would use the CABS and don't baby it. Most Bushcraft blades are 1/8" thick and baton without damage. I dont think you'll ever damage the CABS but if it broke, I'm sure you'll get a new one in the mail from Busse no charge.
My ML Woods and Bush knife is .123, has been batoned thru a lot of hard wood and is just fine. If anything, the fact that you can actually flex the CABS blade with your fingers is good. It will flex instead of snap.

I don't see any problem EDCing the CABS - however, it sounds like you want the ability to chop/baton more than slice (and the ABS is one mean slicer). So I think the BS would be the better choice for you. Just my 2 cents.

For EDC I would hands down carry the CABS because it is much lighter.

Don't be afraid of it being too "thin" as .14" is still PLENTY thick for 90% of anything you'll need ANY knife to do.

I would have preferred to see the CABS in .12" like my RC3mil - my favorite sub 5" blade...

Well, I like my big ole 1911 pattern pistol or G-17 for carry, and my sturdy-as-heck BOSS Street. Heavy? A little, but I'm used to it.

Would I feel "under-knifed" carrying an anorexic? Not at all, I would just scratch can-opening and car door prying off the list.

I LOVE my Boss Street!!! ghetto satin'd and sharp!!:D:D,, but I would love to see a on spine side by side shot with the CABS,,, I'm thinking I need one of these before they go away

Anyone with both can post up a some pics ;)

Not sure why or How you would ever baton a 4" knife other than on small stuff you could already find anyway. I like the CABS and SCABS as they will be much better slicers. Never really understood the baton thing since I have lots of twigs and small branches readily available :D
